I've been looking for apartments recently and one looked too good to be true: great location, awesome photos & low price. I emailed to find out more and sure enough it started seeming clear this was a scam:

This didn't seem right, so I told him I wouldn't put any money down without seeing the place first.

Anyways, I'd like to teach this lad a lesson, but I've never scam-baited before. Any help, what should I do?
Edit: I removed what the lad said to protect details in case I try to bait him anonymously. |

If he has your real life details - DROP him immediately. You can then set up an anonymous email (ie: gmail etc.) and start the bait again. Read the stickies at the top of each forum, read Eater Uni and apply for a mentor |

Hello.
Conga is correct. Since it appears this person might have your RL (real life) details, it is best to drop him immediately.
Then create a safe baiting email address using fictitious details and then begin a baiting career, after having read the stickies, guidelines at start of each forum thread, Eater U and apply for a mentor.
There is a signup panel in Help Hints & Tips to sign up for a mentor. If you get a mentor that has not logged in for a while, it is OK to dis-enroll and re-enroll.
And welcome to the wonderful, whacky world of baiting. |
