Oh. my. God. That article brought me to tears.
Perhaps this is a good opportunity for a reminder that although there are countless Advance fee fraud scammers in Nigeria the vast majority of Nigerians are innocent fellow human beings. Most are just trying to survive the very difficult situations that poverty creates.

That is just awful. 
I often grumble about the "third world" problems I experience here in the West Indies, but poverty on such a desperate scale is not one of them.
