This is basically one of your usual recovery scams. But this lad is a tad bit smarter than your avarage lad i suspect. The reason why i think that is that he use a spoofer that shows the address [email protected]. There is of course no way that he could have gotten a @fbi.gov addy and use it like a real email. And the donotreply part is also clever for obvious reasons.

Lad is open for baiting.

Ummm. Help. So I emailed the contact and it is coming back in Chinese and English and they don't seem to know what I am talking about ad don't appear to know anything about an atm card.

Hm that is odd. Perhaps the lad sent the wrong script. He answered my mail without Chinese. If you are confused you could always ask him what he mean, even though that is nn guarantee that he will enlighten you very much.

I have just sent on back reiterating my story that I was told to contact him re my new ATM card and how confused I am as the local police said I would never see my money again. How heartening to know the FBI are on the case and I will be reimbursed if I just shell out a little bit more. I might make them a cake in gratitude for their efforts.

Post the full header please.. Somewhere along the chain of events, the email changed hands. The important bits are the IP address of where the email was RECEIVED from. There may be some inserted fake addresses, but beyond that point the mail was received from some place. You can spoof where it was Sent from, but you can't hide the handshake between the mailservers. Look for an IP address in lad land somewhere.

Note the real fbi.gov domain is using ip 209.251.178.99
