Talk about cruel irony. My partner's Yahoo e-mail account was hacked into today and all of her information was wiped-out, probably stolen (old e-mails, contacts, etc.) After having checked the login activity, the account was hacked by a POS in, of all places, Nigeria. Evil or Very Mad

I checked the IPs and indeed it does resolve to Nigeria. F***! I wish I could get back at those motherf*ckers.

Yeah, they're bastards ... but what did your partner do wrong to get hacked?

Tell your partner to use this link. If they act fast, they may not only be able to recover their account but retrieve the wiped out information.

Oh and then don't forget to have them read the following. The vast majority of email "hackings" can be prevented.

passwords - making & protecting them

Finally, tell them to bookmark this page & check it regularly to detect any future logins by someone other than himself/herself.

Thanks for the info Bearkat.
I'm happy to say that all of her contacts, files and e-mails sent and received have been recovered thanks to a very helpful Yahoo costumer service rep. She got the contacts back then directed me to the proper form and department to get the e-mails back. Nothing was lost.

Looks like she fell for a phishing thing as far as we can tell. She accessed her e-mail account several times from various computer she uses at a professional centre so maybe one of them was infected with a trojan horse or something. None of my e-mail or other accounts were compromised, so I don't think I had a key logger on my computer. I ran virus/mallware/spyware scans and nothing turned up. I imagine that key loggers for Macs are few and far between but I could be wrong.

Anyways, she is now well aware of what happened and of the potential dangers out there. Her paranoia level went up a notch which, in this case, is fine by me.
