BTW, what's the big deal with the scammers wanting to get vics on IM's? Can they get more info on you or what?

The IM thing, in my limited experience, has been about them shooting for phone numbers, more pictures, and cam chats. I refuse it now! If they can't write me a proper message i don't bother with them. You will find enough in there to play with.

There's a few other reasons why Lads LOVE IM! Firstly, it's easy it's instant, and all they have to do is react to your posts.

Secondly it proves to them you're real and not "Some joker"

And thirdly and possibly most importantly, it proves to them you're compliant. And as such more willing to give them their payday when they ask for it.

But it can be a few hours of your life you'll never get back Wink

Well if I'm tipping a few beers there may be several lapses in judgement, lagged responses, & other mischief in store for my beloved's.

I had one ask for my yayhoo last night. I gave them my G-mail instead. Another way to waste an e-mail back & forth. Then because I don't have a yay I'm sure I can stall a few more days opening one up. LOL.

Actually, while all of those are factors in why they want IM, in reality the main reason is (as always) money.

To many vics, chatting on IM is kind of like having a long phone conversation (without the risk of exposure for the scammer). It seems more intimate and more personal. It feeds into the illusion of a "relationship" much more than simple emails. A few hours worth of chat time is worth days to weeks of emails.

Even if he sacrifices a few extra hours, the sooner the scammer can convince the vic he/she is in a relationship, the sooner he can move to the money request. Plus, the longer it takes to establish the fake relationship, the greater the odds that he will be chopped, or the victim will do research, or a friend or family member will intervene before the victim sends any money.

Instant messaging = instant relationship.

Interesting.. I am new here too with my first bait and mine refuses to im, he wants a phone number instead which he won't get. What instant messenger is good to go? msn, yahoo, skype?

Phone calls are often more about verifying you are real--if that is the case, the scammer will want to make a quick call and then move to chat. But, if a scammer is confident he can pull it off (and some are extremely overconfident) without the accent/language giving him away, he will use the phone for the same purpose as IM--to accelerate the relationship.

Though they are branching out a bit, yahoo messenger is still slightly favored by the lads.
