I have played the idiot for a minute and thought I had him drawn to email but now he wants to set me up an ID on Y!

Is there anything I should worry about here? I told him to go ahead and set me up.

I'm playing this one off the cuff and just rolling with what he gives me for now. I am afraid of an addy that he sets up for me but if that is OK by the rules, I may need some more friends!

Is Y! a Yahoo! account?

I've had several scammers try and set up Yahoo! accounts for me. I am against using it for one reason. I control the bait.

I am pretty sure that the scammer wants to get you to trust him more by entering into a chat with him. I always agree with what the scammer wishes, but never comply. If the scammer sets up an account I will never even try to log on. I will tell him that the user name is not valid and later that the password is wrong while I am dangling cash. The scammer will stop trying after 3 attempts but will not drop you if he sees a quick payday near.

y.mail was the only way I could sign up for an account through Yahell using that name. My boy is pushing me for the IM thing and I am not only playing stupid but I cannot get it to work in my real account there. When he suggested setting up an account for me I was not sure how that would be viewed and I don't know if there is anything he could setup behind my back.

Consider any account set up by lads as compromised. If you log in, only log in long enough to change the password. He may have set it up to give him email notifications of activity. If you use it to chat friends or baiter's, he may get a copy delivered to him.

Don't use the same password as used anyplace else. A cross site attack could compromise the password.

That is exactly why I thought about logging into whatever he sets up. If I can set up some baiter chat on the side that he can see I will be innocent of his nonsense if things go bad.

Agent1002 is correct about the account being compromised.

If you must chat, do it on your terms on your account but lead the lad along and frustrate the hell out of him at the same time.

I love forwarding huge TIFs of converted Jpegs of television actresses while I chat with them. Paparazzi shots often look like amateur snapshots and when they are 6 megabytes each, it gives me 2-10 minutes of not having to type as they wait for the image to download.

The downside to chatting with them is that I have an urgent desire to shower right afterwards.

use it to your advantage! send emails to Gomer or "friends" who just happen to be baiters...you could introduce this guy to so much without having to actually tell him anything.

Let him set it up. Don't log in. Make him explain to you in great detail how to log in. With screen shots. But then make him explain how to open the screen shots. And claim it doesn't look the same on your computer. Etc. etc. etc. In short use what he wants to be a time saving tool to waste even more time. Laughing

^^ what bearcat said, and say you're using Firefox - it always looks different on firefox - let him get in trouble with the Cafe owner for trying to modify one of his computers. Wink

Thank you folks! I just finished a long, boring chat with this one after all of the questions. Most of his replies were "OH OKAY". I would not respond to those so he would start another line after a few minutes.
