Great stuff, Doc! I saw the Aluminum Overcast at the same airport in Hayward in 2010:
A couple of years earlier I had flown in the B-17 Liberty Belle, which sadly was destroyed by fire after a flawless emergency landing this past June. When I watched the Aluminum Overcast come in for a landing last year I decided on the spur of the moment to sign up for a flight, but much to my disappointment they didn't have enough passengers to make it worthwhile so the plane sat on display for the rest of the day. Next year for sure I'm booking in advance and going up -- I won't miss that opportunity again.
There are only two B-17s left doing national circuits in the US today, the EAA's Aluminum Overcast and Collings Foundation's Nine O Nine. |
