Looking for a simple writing tablet, please help if you can

This is something serious, please no funny remarks on the contents.

Due to illness my wife has only about 90% of her memory, following tests she has had, i have been advised to communicate something important by writing it down or drawing pictures.

To save bits of paper, i thought of getting a writing tablet, one that can be rubbed out and is simple to use, so my wife can use it.

Her speech at times goes very slurry and she can not make herself understood, then gets annoyed.

I'm in the progress of writng an update to my wife's illness in 2009.

Sorry to hear this Fo'andles! I hope she is healing. Perhaps a small chalkboard or a whiteboard would work in this case. The whiteboards, using Dry-erase markers work very well for me here at the house. I keep a lot of info on that small board.

I would stick with paper, mainly because the same question may come up again. Also, it might be good for your wife to read them over every once in a while, to refresh her memory.

I'm sorry to hear about your problems Fo'Andless. I hope she gets better.

For drawing on computer I use Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet, if you mean stand-alone tablet like iPad, then i can be no help. But the Wacom Bamboo one is reasonably priced and works great. Certainly great value for the money.

A magnetic writing board that uses a stylus might be a good option. My kids have toy versions of these that have lasted for years.

Do you mean something non-electronic like the signboards divers use?

tough, no batteries, screen won't break, lightweight, looks ideal. I hope this is useful anyway.

When my mother-in-law could no longer make herself understood, we used the pen and paper route.

As Dya Reyarunen-Downmeleg mentioned the paper notes can be used to refresh her memory (unless you can find an electronic gadget that will save the notes).

After MIL passed on, one of the sons wanted the paper/pen notes to keep with family momentos.

Fo', how are her fine motor skills? Have you considered rudimentary ASL (American Sign Language)or similar sign language to substitute? It is a great way to be able communicate, visually, important or urgent needs. It can also be used by both of you and can be used at distance as long as you have line of sight.

All ready have a white board in use, running total on how much she owes me for the holiday, next year.

The problem with sign language with my wife is she can not remember it and gets very tired very quickly and gives up.

I'm going with Ima Baeder's idea and have ordered a Boogie-Board.

My wife is not going to improve her memory from 90%, we try to follow a regular routine which suits me as well.
