Lad wants my email password.

After his dollar almost got chopped the lad wants my email log in and password so he can monitor all my emails for me so no hacker chops him again!

WTF?

There has to be a way to turn this on him. If you try to log into gmail so many times will they temporarily close the account? That is what I am worried about if I give him a fake password.

Also after pushing him to go to Western Union ASAP he provided me with this little nugget of information.

Just say no, it's a completely unreasonable request, you're not incompetent. You can monitor your own email.

Or just play dumb and pretend you don't know what your password is. (Autofill)

Reason for edit: The mods are absolutely right. It isn't worth the risk of accidentally crossing into phishing territory, even if there is no expectation of him to actually give it.

Thank you bearkat! I'm embarrassed that I didn't see it the way others may have. My stinkin thinkin was that lad would refuse that and go the route of both changing their password.

Hmm...you could tell him that you're using an email program, such as Outlook. When you initially set it up you had to put the password in, and ever since then it's just been stored in there. That was so long ago that now you don't even remember the password anymore. Sad

We don't phish for passwords, or even play at it. Period. No asking the lad for his account under any circumstances.

I'd tell him no and then stay away from any discussion about passwords and steer the bait elsewhere. There could be lots of fun ways for you to verify that emails from him are really from him. For instance, the two of you could come up with a secret code that he has to include, and it could be one that you change regularly, so he has to remember the current code. Of course, you could make mistakes with this.

You could tell him you've learned your lesson, thanks for his kind offer but you've already had a security expert go through your system and things have been completely taken care of. There's absolutely nothing to worry about, your system is clean and secure now and perhaps you may even apologise for the inconvenience (if you can stomach apologising to lads).

Ima's suggestion of secret codes is a good one - some lads really love the secret code approach (maybe it's the cloak-and-dagger aspects of it).

@bearkat The rules were not made for fun, or because the mods would like to punish your attempts to torture the lad. But I believe Eater doesn't need any legal issues if somebody carelessly cashbaited lad or phish'd their email accounts.

Unfortunately we don't operate on a level playing field.
Scammers use every dirty trick they can. We play by rules. That protects us all, as well as maintaining a sense of pride in that we do abide by legal regulations.

We may make minor mistakes at times, and that's human. However it takes a computer to really stuff things up.

We have an excellent medium with this forum. To share info and guide each other. The lads have got it all against them. Even though lads play dirty we still cause them much frustration through the support "weapons" we have.

If I were a lad and knew what was up against me here, I'd go straight.
Too often to score a gmail joker and just get frustrated for the scamming efforts not worth it.
