I apologise if this has been asked and answered before, but after using the search function a number of times I was unable to find the information I was looking for.

I've had a few letters in my scambaiting box regarding wanting to invest "in my country". The scammer almost always suggests hotel management or real estate, and asks whether there are other lucrative opportunities for investment available.

Question is, how does the actual scam come in here? Ie, where is the advance fee and how could it play a part? Needless to say, I haven't gotten that far with a scammer using that type of format.

It will come. Try just keeping him talking for a bit. He will want something, wither travel expenses, or courier charges for delivering papers, or some emergency will come up, or the bank he introduces you to will need demurrage payments to release funds into your account, or something ... there's always a fee. And there's always a problem Wink

A lawyer will most likely enter the pictures and there will be fees for contracts, licenses, etc.

I'm just about to send him an e-mail. Twice before I asked him what country he was currently living in, and only now I have gotten a response. He claims he is a "citizen of France" although his IP resolves to Benin. They speak French there, but he's lying to me already.

My character claims to be a lucrative businessman specialising in real estate and land. I am going to straight-bait the lad to the bitter end on this one. I'll keep you guys informed.
