odd request from gambia gold scammer

I've got one on the hook selling me gold and he wants me to either come down and see the "gold" for myself or he wants to send a sample to me.
Um, why is he offering to send a sample when he doesn't have anything ? Razz

(maybe he wants me to pay for that i suppose) just trying to figure out whats the best way to waste his time.

I was involved with the same type of gold mining lad. First I asked him for his address so I could send DHL over to pickup the sample. Of course he refused that. He told me he could send the sample by FEDEX. He wanted me to pay him up front for the sample and freight, $2500. I first "sent" him MG, secur3ptv.com security validation. After he complained about all the questions. I "sent" him a WU, mtcnv4ult.com security validation. After he complain about not being able to get the mtcn I tried "sending" him a bank transfer. First attempted failed due to the account he gave me being inactive (aka alan killed it). The second account he gave me, the funds were blocked by the Office of Foreign Asset Control. Gave him forms to fill out. After refused the forms. I told him I would fly down to Accra to meet him. Then for some reason he always missed me. At the airport, the hotel lobby, club Aphro, etc.

secur3ptv and mtcnv4ult are the best. They keep the lads busy for hours!

You assume that he doesn't have anything to send you. That is wrong. Gold scammers often have "samples" that victims can have tested (for the quality) to lend credibility to the scam. When we safaried three lads to Chad this month they all claimed to have samples with them that we was to test. And one or two of them sold all or part of their test sample in order to get home again. And they had little to gain by not having the samples with them as they could not kidnap us or rob easily as they where coming to us. If you where to go to them though, then they would perhaps play another game not involving any real gold. Most likely they had their samples with them.
So gold scammers do have gold to send to you if they think that could suck you in with it.

I say you offer to meet them at your company's laboratories in (insert moderately distant country here, preferably one notorious for human trafficking).
See if you can't ruin his day, right?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I am going to play it slow and ask him if hes prepared to send samples for free just to see what angle hes taking then I might try new things once we've got to that stage.

Any reasonable seller would provide a free sample, if it comes to your lab and checks out, then you'll be happy to pay for a large consignment and include the value of the sample. He only needs send a tiny amount, about 5 grammes? which to him, being that he has a whole pile of gold to sell is nothing. It has been done before (getting a sample sent through).
