Hi everyone!
I consider myself intelligent and thought I'd always be able to pick an online scam, which until now I had. I never took into account that there are certain approaches they use depending on what web site service you are utilizing. I was new to Gumtree and was listing my 3rd item when I received a text on my phone telling me to email someone who is interested in my item. I did so, and he did the whole paypal thing and said it's safe and secure and told me he would send a private courier to pick up my item after he had made the paypal payment.
Any large expensive items I sell must be picked up in person and when he wouldn't meet me, I became skeptical. I didn't like the idea of a truck driving off down the road with my $5000 lounge suite and him being able to make a claim with paypal and not have met who I was dealing with. I didn't pick up the fraudulent paypal link right away.
I did an online search of paypal fraud and quickly realized what he was doing and then knew I was to expect a fraudulent paypal link. Apparently he had deposited $2000 in my paypal account but required me to send courier fees to him via western union and he wanted it done pronto!
I can't help thinking that if I had of been someone who trusted in people a bit more he would have had me. To sell my item so fast was very appealing.
I was really happy when I found this site. I'm glad to see someone is doing something about these crooks. |

I found this site when I tried to find out more about some letters I got in my mums mail:) We had a long talk about scammers in general and the way they act and also manage to trick allot of people. So I have been reading . looking around on the forum and oboy I have been laughing.
As you can see of my writing im not English but that can also be a positive thing if im going to try baiting. Ofc allot to read and learn so I don’t get myself into a big mess. For now I just wanted to say hi and you prob see me looking around on the forum.
Bows / kneels for the the good job, site and all the baitingJ) |

Welcome new members.
Why not give baiting a try yourself? Read the Stickies first, and it's 140% risky free! English skills are not required either, as "Lad -English," can be downright combobulating and eucalyptizing in the best of times!
Enjoy surfering the lads in the warm waters, surfergirl. |

Hi all,
Newcomer here. I stumbled on this site from Scamwarners when a friend of mine had someone try to scam her with an online selling scam.
I found the link here and have been thoroughly enjoying the work done by the members here. I have followed the recent safari from Dr. Mike and The Monsigner to much delight. |

Hi to all you baiters. I am so glad I found this site and may I say, WELL DONE!
I sort of do an offline version of scambaiting when I go to the city. This is great though.
In the past, I only sent these scammers tonnes of gay porn, but now I can learn from the pro's how to really take the mickey and maybe end up with some African art.
I found this site yesterday evening and did not sleep.
I have a lot more reading to do...
Later. |

Welcome to Eater! I was just on the phone with a lad in Nigeria. I haven't gotten any African art, but I have gotten some accounts shut down and I'm running up a scammer's phone bill for nothing. |

Hi, I've been home sick for the past couple of days, so I've basically been lurking on this site reading all the hilarious stories. I also appreciate the work that you all do keep these scammers from reaching real targets. I also enjoy making up long convoluted somewhat ridiculous stories, so I figure I may as well put it to work helping others. |

Hello,
I had someone try to scam me (and almost fell for it) for a vacation rental in Colorado. I asked for a phone number and called, only to receive a Magic Jack message. I called again and the Nigerian gentleman by the name 'John Peterson' answered.
If anyone wants to contact this man, let me know. |

Hello everyone!
I discovered this great site a few weeks ago, but haven't joined the forum until now (I've been too busy reading the magnificent Shiver Metimbers scambaits )
In the past I have received tons of scam e-mails, but I always ignored them. Now that I know baiting is such a fun sport, I'll try some of my own |

Hi ppl found this site trough something awful's scamming thread.
Read the story where adamu gets stredet in chad for 100 days awesome stuff.
My goal is to get some lad on safari.
More advanced goal is to get dude to safari going from ghana's airport to china and perhaps after that to chad
i plan to do this by gettin victim kidnapped by someone telling mugu that they need to pay 1000$ ramsom (of course victim will make miraculous escape) to get me out while promising 100 000$ + 50 000$ for freeing me. Only to have mugu discover that im somehow been strandet in poor village in china without any means off gettin back. Asking for mugu to come and safe me because my victim doesnt have any family and is a really bad tempered scrooge (thats the correct term right) .
still thats pretty far away dream
my ip is safe as its showing wrong city on iptrackker + rest of my connection goes by radiowawes meaning i wont get trackked so easily . |

Hi The Hand and Don Logan, and welcome to Eater!
The first step to getting trophies or safaris is to learn how to get a lad hooked on your character, and writing and writing and writing to them. That takes a bit of practice! It's easiest done by 'straight baiting', and you'll find a good tutorial about that in Eater University, here:
Straight Baiting.
A mentor can also help you a great deal.
@The Hand: it sounds like you've got a great imagination, and that's always a useful thing! Please don't think of asking a lad to send money to anyone, though, not even to a charity. If he needed to get hold of money like that, he'd probably do that by scamming a real victim ... and you certainly don't want to be instrumental to that.
You'll also want to read the section 'Baiting for Cash' near the end of the Forum Rules and FAQ:
http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=176248
There are lots more other ideas to thwart and frustrate the lads though - and you'll be able to read plenty of those here. |

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.
I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers? |

oh well true eventrough it would gone to charity + i dont prob want to bring any outsiders to it anyway (even if they are unaware)
guess i have to make the victim escape the kidnappers somehow instead
and reading trough those faq's china seems to be bit too far fetched especially if they work in nigeria :/ maybe someday |

Hello everyone,
I was a member several years ago, but life got in the way and I had to give up baiting for a while. I've never really ventured much beyond straight baiting (I got 200 clicks on one of the MTCN security modalities... ooooooooo...). I've been lurking here while I got back into the spirit, turns out it's just as great as I remember.
I wouldn't mind signing up for a mentor (although I still have limited time to devote to baiting and forums), but I think the system is full, or I can't sign up with 0 posts.
In any case, I'll probbably be fairly quiet, but I do enjoy the hijinks.
(Also, I realized the other day that I might have accidentally stolen the name of a rather infamous mugu, I assure you this was 100% unintentional. Hopefully he doesn't get mad ) |

I'm Kariko and I'm currently baiting a guy who thinks he's getting 150,000 Euros out of me. Right now, I'm on a trip to Paris, France to meet "Mr Robert" and discuss the "assay" of the gold. Currently going to let him wait a few days (if I'm going to Paris, I gotta enjoy it, right?) and see what happens. |
