I've had a lad keep calling me on my Flextel account. I've set it up so I get emailed on every call. Today I told him the "deal was off" and changed my phone to not accept anonymous calls, as he withholds his number. Normally emails sent by FlexTel show:

$mynumber was called from 002347069648xxx

where "xxx" is withheld.

But either by mistake or intentionally, he gave all digits last time. I see:

$mynumber was called from 002347069648abc

where "abc" are known to me.

So I now have the full telephone number he is calling from.

Not that I can do a lot with it, but now I have his full telephone number, which is a public place I think. Firstly since he told me so, and secondly since I could hear a lot of others chatting in the background on numerous occasions. It's clearly not a very private place he calls me from.

My email makes good reading. Between 1900 and 1941 he called me 6 times. I'd like to know if he had to pay for those 6 calls, as at least 5 would not have been routed by Flextel as he withheld his number. The final one should have been routed to my phone, but I made a mistake and it got routed elsewhere. I'll correct that error.

I think by blocking his calls I am indicating I really have given up with him. But by introducing another character who is trying to mediate, I think I can keep him hooked for a while yet.

My goal is to get him to send something wtih a courier and provide me with a tracking number. I'll claim to pay as soon as I see the item has been shipped, as verified by the tracking number. Whether or not he will gamble $100 or so to send something silly so he can provide me a tracking number I do not know.

I'm hoping he might spend $100 or so to send me some bit of junk which can be tracked, in the belief I'll pay immediately I get a tracking number confirming the high value items are being shipped.

I'm not sure if this strategy will work or not. He might simply not have the financial means to pay for Fedex to pick up anything.
