Had the usual 3-liner asking to know more about me, so I replied and then had the longer response that I won't paste here as you're all familiar with the MO.
I've sent this and as it's my first love-bait would appreciate some pointers?

Hello Anita
Well you're an attractive young thing aren't you?! As the guys would say in my province when faced with such a horny little tyke 'phwoar, phwoar, let's get those things off shall we?'. Sorry about your dad love, I know it's tough growing up dadless as I did too - mine was mercilessly butchered by an offshoot of the Provisional IRA back in '71 and I was left to fend for myself (my mum copped off with the local vicar after I was born and they did a runner to Shetland).
Anyways enough sob-stories I want to know more about you, you randy little biatch! You study law huh? You're evidently a smart cookie there's no mistaking, and I'm looking forward very much to snuggling up with you in front of a crackling log fire, toasting marshmallows and discussing the finer points of United & National Planagram Constituents Ltd (in admin) vs Mr E H Corbett (dec'd) 1982. A fascinating case that'll keep us entertained for hours before the symbolic bubble-bath dontcha think?
As for me I'm a simple soul really. I like Austrian chime musak, grilled salmon and Dodge Chargers from 1969. As far as hobbies go, I enjoy the odd spot of fashioning speaker binding-posts from discarded rectal probes and also imitating chicken giblets outside the local asylum on a Tuesday night. My work involves counselling those with deformed ears so I'm under the cosh quite a bit M-F as well as being on standby for urgent distress on a shift-pattern at weekends. The other days are covered by my uncle sempster. Other than that I pop to Church regular like for a curry & hymn night with old Reverend Tomzir. He founded the Church of Defecating Misfortunates way back years ago and it's nice to meet & counsel the poor bastards sometimes. Mostly though I go for the korma. You should join & come along sometime - I'll get the Rev to send you an application form.
Anyways, send me some more photos, preferably ones where you show your teeth and look a bit less miserable?
Love you loads already.
Azzumba

Couple of pics too - hence the reference to the teeth:
With any luck it won't be read properly so I can carry on.

Hi CommDixon,
You've obviously got a good imagination and some ideas and plans ready to hatch there - but it might help to remember also that the lad is looking for a compliant victim.
At this early stage, he's probably not reading your emails thoroughly (or at all), so no harm done, but sooner or later he's going to have to choose which of his correspondents to continue with, and which ones to drop (time writing emails = money spent), and he is likely to choose the 'easiest' potential victims. Therefore, it might be worth your while to appear (at this point) a bit more humble and amazed by the lady, and to only write about things which the lad can easily respond to.
Of course, there are lads who are either not-so-bright, or totally desperate, and they will go along with anything (in that hope that money will materialise), so it is always an option to be as crazy as you wish from the start, in order to hook one of those. But, doing this, you will probably also lose many others before you find your desperate lad.
The photos he sent to you could be of a female friend or relative, but are more likely to be some images which he has downloaded from somewhere. If so, he'll have a very limited supply of them, and may not be able to send you any alternatives, including smiley shots. So it is 'safest' (for the longevity of your bait) to drop the request if no more photos arrive.
Think 'victim'. In the beginning of a bait, it helps to pretend to be impressed by the potential-lover/wife, and to talk about the things that 'she' wants to talk about. Later, once the lad is convinced that you will be sending money, you can more easily deviate from being sensible and conventional - by then, the lad has put in a lot of time and effort, and isn't so likely to want to let you go. But early on, he's looking for an easy target. He wants money without effort. It can be most effective to reveal your character's individuality slowly. |

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.
I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers? |

To add to what Branwen said...
You need to ask yourself the question: "What would I do if I really fell for this scammer?"
The scammer uses photos of a young attractive woman (I know everyone's opinion is different, and some may not find her attractive, but the scammer believes that she is attractive and will lure men in).
He is (generally) targeting middle-aged or older men who are somewhat unrealistic in their expectations (if they were realistic, it would occur to them that it was a little odd that a gorgeous young woman fell for them in a matter of days). Typically the best victims:
-are "average" men who really don't appeal to twenty-something women (no matter how much they think they should in some cases)
-has some disposable income, or a way to get it. Sometimes they will be wealthy, but more often both male and female victims will be middle to upper-middle class. Again, if they are wealthy enough, chances are they will find a gold-digger locally and not be online looking for one, unless they are looking for something extreme.
-are willing to accept things based on their word, and are not in the habit of cross-checking (in some cases, the scammer will use porn photos or video as a distraction)
-are very responsive to flattery, sex, and/or romantic talk.
-in the case of refugee scammers, as this one appears to be, they are using a combination of romance (the opportunity to play hero to the poor stranded girl) and sex (the expectation of a payout for saving the poor stranded girl).
Your job is to be that character. You are attracted, concerned about her predicament, ready to overlook the consistencies in her story. You want to help her out of this situation (but that doesn't mean you have to offer money right away, either--you can offer to send supplies, talk to the inevitable religious figure who is helping her in the refugee camp, talk to immigration, get her a lawyer, etc--you get the idea.) If you start throwing too many demands out, or steering things towards your "church" too soon, you will lose her right away.
I will tell you that refugee scammers are often a tough place to start. They are often unwilling to go off script, are quick to demand money, and often quick to drop victims who don't comply right away. Don't worry if you lose "her" as there are plenty of others behind her. |
