A typical money wash-wash scam group busted by Canadian police! (Wooo!!!)

Two men claiming to be political refugees from Sierra Leone approached staff at a store called Glenmore Sailing last month. The duo claimed they wanted to buy two boats for $100,000, and they wanted to pay in cash.

The only way they could bring the money into Canada was if it was disguised as plain black or white paper, the men said, showing staff how the money – when washed with a chemical – would transform into a $50 bill.

"They said they would return with all the money disguised as plain notes. In 'black money' scams of this nature, the victim is normally left with a bundle of plain paper that does not wash as per the demonstration," police said in a news release.

Staff became suspicious and called police, who arrested the pair.

They have been charged with fraud over $5,000.

Seriously....these are pretty stupid lads.

Well...there are people who pay and who get ruined while paying. A victim I remember very well from summer 2008 on scamwarners did. He travelled to Ghana and South Africa even, felt accepted "into the family" and believed and paid and paid and cashed checks. The story as told to us on SW ended with him having to face a trail for check fraud Sad

Sure, these scammers in this article here might have been less trained, yet they wouldn´t have tried if they had not known about it working out often enough.

Oh I know all too well. I have heard plenty of people who get suckered, in my own city. It is disgusting. Hell one store was even robbed when the owner when confronted by two Ghanian immigrants who were "associates" of the scammer who he talked to. When he tried to back out, they beat him up and ransacked the store.

Lads are not the brightest, but it doesn't take away the most important aspect: They are criminals. Horrible criminals but criminals none-the-less. I am just glad these two wash-wash scammers got what they deserve.

Surprisingly some scams simply get forgotten or remoulded.

The expression "who let the cat out of the bag" comes from an old old scam, where people thought they were buying a pig, I think the expression came from when the bag was opened and out ran kitty.

Hundreds of years later you get people stopping in cars (UK) not sure about other countries, and they show you a brilliant high spec laptop etc or some other item you might buy, then they wrap it for you, and give you a parcel.

You later open the parcel to find its a brick they sold you.

I have dealt with a lad like that too, he ended up scamming my friend $2000 to buy the chemical to clean the black money. You would never believe how slick and convincing these guys are. For 2 weeks he had me believing he was a real refugee who had millions. The story is so similar to mine, I would not be surprised that it may be the same guys who were here in Belize. Police here deported them on imigration issues.
