30 years from today, M$ 'invented' MS-DOS (that is, they bought QDOS - Quick and Dirty Operating System - from the company SCP for some 75,000 $).

Today we still suffer the consequences Shocked

As a boycotter of M$ products, aside from when I need to broadcast my radio show (My commercial broadcasting software refuses to connect to the internet if it doesn't find a valid install of XP), I'd like to say Happy 30th MS-DOS and happy whatever UNIX systems!!!! Yay! since 1969!!!!

Okay, I'm sorry. Not trying to ruin your thread or anything. I'm quite hungover from a band get together last night and I wake up and saw MS-DOS. Razz

as for MS-DOS, I can still remember using _AX =0x0013; geninterrupt(0x10);

Easiest entry into graphics mode ever.

Of course, the lack of threads made efficient coding a pain.

Any rate, vi is a pain in the a**.

There are, however; zillions of 80x25 black on white enthusiasts out there who swear on vi.... To them, even "vim" is much too degenerated....

No kidding. I can't stand vi, and I'm linux fanatical extremist.

Ill use nano if I have to, but I prefer kate and gedit for plain text editors.

I do, however, use butterflies for my programming. And no, not the emacs function Razz

Uh-oh, I'm not a real Linux extremist (My linux is a simple Puppy, being run from CD). But I don't use any other way to get into the WWW. I like Gedit. With the Puppy distribution I've got, Geany is included as standard editor. That's certainly not the non plus ultra of editors but always nice & handy for pasting scammer's letters from the clipboard for further action...

better not start on the Apple iToys otherwise someone might put a hit out on me!!

and I sit here running a 64 bit OS with 8Gb memory + PGP et al and running massive financial models like the wind - that would have taken at least all night when I were a lad one of our several mainframes for one iteration Shocked

over a coffee this morning I was just remembering fondly a colleague threatening bad things to my reproductive equipment as I held a large pile of his punched cards (correctly ordered by him ) out of a 1st floor window because he was giving me grief . . . happy days ! Cool
