Why the hell did he leave with it and lie about where he found it? Personally, I think he planned to keep it, but then changed his mind (or a friend or family member convinced him to turn it it). From the article:

He found the money INSIDE Walgreens. All he had to do was go to the front desk or ask a cashier to call management. The guy left the store with the money bag!
And I think he probably does deserve a fine. He lied about where he found it, and that could have wasted manpower and hours investigating.
I'm glad he did the right thing by deciding to turn in the money. But he should have turned it in right away. |

^ Yep. He took the money, then he, or somebody remembered about CCTV. So he took it back with a not so well thought out cover story.
He was fined for lying to the police. Not taking the loot. |
