This came across my desk at work today in my stack of payables with a note from my boss asking me to pay it so we didn't look our registered trademarked logo. (we just TM'd last year)

After spending so much time on 419eater recently, I recognized that something wasn't right here and brought it to my bosses attention and advised not to pay it.

Of course there isn't a phone number or email address to have any contact, they just expect you to pay blindly.

Is anyone familar with trademark scams?

I have a scanned copy of the letter in full with disclaimers if it would be of use, but have only included the first page here. I have also edited out my companies info for privacy.

Not familiar with TM scams, however, our university division/department received many "invoices" for advertising in the telephone "yellow" pages. The invoices always looked like the real deal. I called the local telephone company and spoke to someone in the yellow pages department because I had just paid the yellow page advertising a few weeks before and for a sum less than the now-fake invoice wanted.

Many of the administrators did not check this out and paid. I called it to the attention of the powers that be and after that everyone was instructed to pay close attention to "unusual" invoices. Many divisions lost a lot of money paying those phoney invoices and could not recover those sums.
