I am baiting (what seems to me is) a rather rare lad. We have emailed back and forth a few times, and still there has been no mention of money.

I could be wrong, but it seems this lad may be smarter than most. Waiting to drop the 'Give-Me-Money' line seems like it would be more effective.

So, I'm curious...

If you can recall, how many times have you emailed back and forth with a lad before they brought money into the mix?

usually the 3rd or 4th email, be it from lad 1 or on of the bankers or barristers.

The "stuck in customs" ruse typical in love scams may take longer.

what's his format?

ah, right - love scam of some sort - then some disaster will befall her and you'll need to bail her out with cash. That seems the usual modality. Seem likely?

That can vary a great deal. Some lads will make demands for money quick whereas some will have a great deal op patience. Love lads for example usually take long before the request for money arrives in your inbox.

Seems about right to me. Since I'm so new to baiting, this is the first lad of this species I've come across.

That makes sense! Strangely enough though, I've had four or five love lads contact me now, and all have asked for money in the second email!

Generally more experienced/successful romance scammers (or those with slightly better scripts) will take a little longer to request money. Those who thoroughly hook their victims first will generally see a much bigger payout--and the successful scammers are more likely to understand that.

It's the newer ones who are usually too greedy and impatient to wait on the money demands--and as a result, they are the least successful, at least when it comes to large payouts.

That's about what I figured! Either way, I'll have some fun with this one!

I was wondering about this very thing. I haven't done many baits before, and I'm kind of reading around in here before I pick up any new ones, but lads do seem to come in different shapes and sizes.

They all want money, but they seem to employ different techniques and they're definitely not all alike.

In my old area of Ontario, there's a highly successful organized syndicate of eastern Europeans (they don't like their name published) who are into romance and friendship scamming. Those guys are very patient and well attuned to the western culture, probably because they live in it. The west African crowd, in my very limited experience, seems very different and far more interested in a quick buck.

The cops in Ontario know about the Russians all too well, but their scams are the least offensive of their activities so that stuff ranks low on the priority list. It's also nearly impossible to prove them guilty of anything in front of a judge.
