Hey!

I have been in-contact with a guy in Thailand who has a personal company.

When I spoke to him he sounded legit, but I guess blufffers are good at that too. :p
He doesnt have a website yet, but via gmail I have checked his IP which is in bangkok.

Does it look to be legit, or could it be a bluffer?

Personally I think that the document looks sketchy, but there's an easy way to check. The person's letter claims to be issued by the International Chamber of Commerce. Their contact page is here: http://www.iccwbo.org/id107/index.html so you can ask them directly and have a much more definitive answer.

I have no clue, sorry. I just googled "International Chamber of Commerce," did a quick look around their site, and couldn't find a complete list of the companies listed under them (there's a partial list, and this company isn't on there). I figured that e-mailing them might be the best route to go, they will be able to tell you for sure whether or not this company is listed. As I said previously, I'm skeptical, but the ICC will be able to confirm it one way or the other.

Hi thernztrom and welcome to Eater.

I agree with Gimli about the document -- it looks sketchy, but could be legit. And I am not willing to make a determination of this company or the business transaction based on one document.

If you want good opinions (more than what one can base on just one document) it would help if you would share more information -- the name of the company, the name of this guy in Thailand, his email address, etc. If you don't want to share those, then the best advise I can give you is to google everything -- his email address, phone number, name of company, etc, looking for discrepancies. Are the items he is selling at a price that is too good to be true? If so, chances are it is too good to be true.

Even if you are only paying 1/2 in advance, that is still the amount he could get away with if it is a scam. Can you afford that? Do you have any real recourse if he doesn't send the goods after you pay?

Just some things to think about.

We could use a bit more info about it.
He has a website to advertise/sell stuff ?
How are you supposed to pay him? Western Union. CC or by bank ?
If you don't want to go public with it all, best PM a moderator <green people> and explain it to them.

$700.00 for an item that you can't buy at home for about the same or 10% more, do you have to pay tax over it?

Hey again!

So it is an personal business company, he owns it and runs it by himself.
He dont have a website yet, instead he posts ads about products on sites.
And yes, it was like half-prize of what it costs at home.
He said all tolls and shipping costs are included in the prize.

But as 350dollars is abit too much to loose, I decided to ask him if I could pay via PayPal or Payson instead of to his banc acount.
Then the attitude in his email was abit angrier, he said soo many asks him for paying with paypal and similar, but he said he had so many customers payed to his banc account and it has worked so good, and therefore he dont wanna change his rules.

I got very suspicious since paying/recieving via Paypal covers me, and he gets all his money. (which he then can transfer to his banc acc if wanted)

So decided to not make any deal with him. Just replied back, that since he dont have any website or a profile at e.g. ebay where you can see reviews, its hard to trust someone and pay to a banc account. That if changes his mind he can contact me again.
(And I agree, the doc looked abit sketchy)

^^^ That sounds like a good idea. Even if there is just a slight chance it is a sketchy offer, you don't want to find that out after you lose your money. Even with eBay and PayPal, there is always a chance of being scammed. So there are just too many things that don't sit comfortable with me and I think you have made the right decision, thernztrom.
