IE8?

So our IT guy at work was doing an upgrade on some of our computers and he mentioned that he removed the FireFox browser, and replaced it with InternetExplorer 8.

He claims that IE8 is now, by far, the most secure browser available.

Thoughts?

I had IE8, for about 2 days, then as it conflicted with so many of the programmes and hardware I use, I uninstalled and went back to IE7. That was a fair while ago though, and the glitches may be fixed, but I still prefer FireFox for web browsing.

And the fact that IE8 is still a Windows app, makes it prime target for everyone with hacking skills to vent against Bill Gates.

IE8 is such a part of Windows, and it can not be uninstalled, I wondering how you did this.. (perhaps a roll back?) Laughing

IE 7 sucks donkey.. Chrome works..

If I remember correctly, and it was a couple of years ago, after 2 days of frustration with printer, scanners, photo editing issues, and finally getting a grudging admittance from MS that IE8 wasn't compatible with my set up and peripherals, I cleared IE8 out and reinstalled IE7.

Don't ask me to remember what I did, as far as Chrome goes, I may eventually get to it, but if it is from google, I'm not in a rush to have everything on my drive accessible to them.

i wont use IE at all, i use firefox 4 for 98% of my browsing, and very occasionaly chrome

You might also want to check Secunia's vulnerability stats on FF4 and IE8 (though, to be fair, IE8 has been around longer than FF4). *

For those who like Chrome but don't want to sacrifice their first-born to Google, you might like Iron. It's basically Chrome minus the spyware, and works very very well. (Forgive the bad English on their website, they're Germans.)

I'm a Google Chrome user, myself. They have one, or two apps that help a little for shutting off sound and ads on websites. Not sure if they have any that might help us...Sure there's a thread out there that will say otherwise.

Either way I just don't like, or trust, any IE.

@Conga: IE9 (as well as all the other versions) are incompatible with my mind, that's what matters.

@Crashoot: Somewhere around the start of this year, the IT guys at my university replaced IE6 with IE7, which means tabbed browsing. As other browsers are out of the question, this was the first time _ever_ I've actually been happy with any version of IE.

EDIT: For me it's all FireFox 4 with the TreeStyleTab addon (this addon is a must for people who have the nasty habit of opening lots of tabs, like me. And it also allows you to organize your tabs in a tree structure)

EDIT3: @Crashoot: My advice to you is, backup all your work (but don't tell the IT-guy), then a few minutes before you get to go home format your computers drive, call the IT-dept and tell them something odd happened to your pc and you don't know what, go home.
Repeat until the guy quits, you'll have done your company a favor Wink

Here's the funny part. They've configured IE9 to block 'certain' websites, and by 'certain', I mean every friggin' website on the Internet!

It won't even connect to the companies own website. Rolling Eyes

No problem, I just re-installed FireFox, and all is good again.
