I have enjoyed reading the baits on here for sometime and wonder if I can ask some questions, excuse me if they seem stupid.

I have had a profile on a free dating site and get loads of messages from scammers. I like to waste there time and ask lots of dumb questions and 'get them off script', as well as reporting them to the mods on the site. Although the mods are a bit tardy in getting rid of them. I do this on the site and all the exchanges are done on the site, I never give my e-mail to any of them.

Any way I have one that I have strung along for about a week or so and they have come to the bite and asked for money. $300 to get a passport and of course please send the money via Western Union.

They have given an address in Seattle and a name of the person, a uncle who will collect the money.

Is this address and person likely to be fake?

Is it possible to pick up the money from another WU office even if the person I am sending the money to is in Seattle?

I suspect the scammer is from West Africa but since I make it a rule never to give my email, and all the communication has been done on the site, therefore I am unable to check the headers.

I am still trying to string them along to get a bank account details that I am supposed to send the money to.

Any ideas, thoughts, answers?

first of all, apply for a mentor, he/she will iniciate you in baiting

the stickies and eater university have almost every answer to the questions you have at the early stages.

yes, altough sometines it turns out to be a mule ( person who picks up the money for the scammers)

Like Jim said, it might be fake or it could be a mule or other scam victim (possibly another romance vic). (Although if it is fake, how would it get picked up?) It seems more likely this is a mule or another victim.

Technically, a WU payment can be picked up in the same country, but not another country. So a payment sent to Seattle could be picked up in NYC, but not in Canada or Nigeria. This is how it is suppose to work. But there have been some cases where it seems that the details can be changed (albeit with some work on the part of the scammer) and then picked up in another country.

I think the safest assumption to make is if the payment is being sent to the someone in Seattle, someone in Seattle is going to pick it up, and chances are good it is another vic/mule. If you would please pass this information to any mod on Eater (their names are in green), they can then pass it over to one of our scam warners who can investigate and do a warning, if needed.
