Watched Apocalypse Now (1979). Awesome movie, I highly recomend it. It's also interesting to read the book it was based off, Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness (which is an all-time favorite of mine).

^ Great movie.

Tonight I watched Unforgiven (1992) again, damn good movie. I'm a big fan of Eastwood's old Spaghetti Westerns, but this movie is a bit more refined.

Just watched The Good, The Bad, and The Weird. (A Korean movie that's sort of similar to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.)

I second Birdemic. It is an epic masterpiece of misplaced environmental concern and equally misplaced scenes. It's basically like The Room, but worse. Birdemic actually made me appreciate Tommy Wiseau.

I know this is a few weeks overdue, but in terms of Nazi movies, I recently watched Valkyrie for the first time, and I actually enjoyed it. The trick is not to think about the face that it's Tom Cruise in the lead role while you're watching. Admittedly, I'm not much of a theater connoisseur. I just need a film to entertain me to get in my good books.

Watched Adam http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185836/
Although the internet is choc-full of self diagnosed spergers, this movie was fairly accurate and really made me sad as all hell.

Also rewatched 'the crazies' remake.

/\ Apocalypse Now is in my top 5 films, though its a long time since I saw it last. I have it on DVD, but its a big investment in time (3 hours or so, depending which version you have). It was probably the music by The Doors that first got me into it (shallow, I know).

The week before last we watched Harry Brown, with Michael Caine as an ex services vigilante, like an aging version of Charles Bronson in the Death Wish movies.

Last week we watched The Mechanic, which was well made and some very clever twists. I had a nagging feeling I'd seen something very similar before, only now do I find out its a remake of a film starring, er..... Charles Bronson!

Generally I hate remakes, and refuse to watch things like Get Carter and The Italian Job, as its like doing Beatles covers - nothing better will ever come of it. Most films I would never watch again, but some like Blade Runner and Pulp Fiction I could watch every week if I had to, even though I know what the next line is going to be.

I have a habit of liking films most people hate, like Vanilla Sky and Waterworld. I think I'm the only person on the planet who enjoyed that so much he watched it twice!

Rewatched my beloved "Hang The Red Lanterns".

To me, it's a 9 out of 10. Beautiful story, extremely well acted, and touching to the extreme.

No, you're not. Embarassed

Some classics in my dvd collection - 'North by Northwest', 'Charade', 'The Apartment', 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. Will be picking up 'Some Like It Hot' at some point. Also saw 'Point Blank' on tv and enjoyed it, so might add that as well.

A favourite modern film is 'Amelie' - absolutely beautiful cinematography, and a lovely story - like a modern fairytale. Smile

Also enjoyed the Bourne trilogy, The Terminator films, Secretary, and Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz. And the original Japanese versions of 'Ring' and 'Ring 2' were good - not something I'd usually watch, but wanted to see what all the fuss was about. So I watched them when they were shown on tv on consecutive nights. Across midnight. By myself. Glad I did, but never again - still gives me the shivers. :yikes:

I have eclectic tastes. Very Happy

I really love "The Rock" which I think succeeded in spite of Michael Bay rather than because of him.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

I haven't seen it in years and just watched it again on Netflix streaming. Pacino was great.

Just seen Guy Ritchie's film of "Sherlock Holmes" on DVD, with Robert Downey Jr (yum) in the title role and Jude Law as Dr Watson. Loved it. Very Happy Great relationship between the 2 male leads. Recommend it, good way to pass a couple of hours if you haven't seen it.

Watched A Serbian Film yesterday afternoon. Not a movie for the fainted hearted, but the director got all the responses he set out to get from from me. Sometimes to prove a point you have to take it to the limit, mission accomplished.

Despite being a 41 year old, confirmed heterosexual male, I have Sandra Bullock movies marked down for my guilty pleasure...Just don't tell anyone I said that.

Err, I hate to contradict a mod, but...I liked both these films.
And saw both of them twice.

But then again, I liked District 9. The portrayal of the Nigerians seemed overly subtle, but that could be me.
I even liked Toystory 3.
And the 13th Warrior.
And a fair number of the Star Trek movies.
And Master and Commander.
And Spartacus.
Quo Vadis, anyone?

I like movies.

Thor was pretty good. You can also take the kids to it. Stay past the credits for the typical SHIELD trailer

I think that I need to watch "The Pacific" again.

Must watch list:

Drama: "To Live" Dir. Zhang Yi Mou

Sci-Fi: “Alien” Dir. Ridley Scott

War: "The Longest Day"

Other Recommendeds: The Last of the Mohicans, True Grit(John Wayne version), The Sunshine Limited.

My 2 pennies worth.
