Serious question: Is there a 'National Bank' in New York?
(or anywhere in America?)

My poor dying lad (with only 2 months to live..... no... wait.... "several" months to live deposited 25 Million etc in "national bank in United States New York."

This was after living in "Utah United State of America Utah"... uh... I mean "Tennessee". She keeps forgetting, in her frail state.

Anyway.... I was about to give her a "Bullshit, lady. there's no such bank" reply.
But I found http://www.nbnyc.com

Is that a real bank/site?

Looks like it was put together with Word & Paint.

Not the best looking site by far but it appears to be legit. At least I can't find any evidence to the contrary. There is a warning about scams on the home page so obviously they know their site is being used to try and legitimize scams.

Edit to add. You don't want to tell a lad his bank is fake regardless that would be educating him. If you do get sent a fake bank tell him how proffesional the site is and how happy you are to be working with them. Then promptly post the fake bank site in the fake bank forum.

Again the one you posted looks legit.

http://www.nbnyc.com/ is one. Check out the home page: it consists entirely of a warning about banking scams.

There's also a Safra National Bank in NYC. And an American National Bank.

In America, it seems every bank wants to call itself "The First National Bank of" wherever. Even if it's a tiny outfit in the middle of nowhere.

You might want to slap the lad a bit about the ambiguity, and suggest a name of your own choosing.

"Do you mean Cockswallow National Bank of Ludsworth?"

And then hope he'll spend some money getting a fake bank site set up. Then you'll get the chance to kill a site with a very fun name, grab a flag, and cost him some cash.

The thing that concerned me is that they are claiming their interest rates are correct as of 22/2/11. That's 3 days in the future.

Do not banks and credit unions guarantee interests rates for a designated period of time?

When I sold real estate the financial institutions would guarantee a certain interest rate would be good until some future date. If I was trying to help my client find a good deal on an interest rate, the financial institution would guarantee the rate (lock-down rate) until some weeks in the future.

I do not see a problem with guaranteeing an interest rate for some future date.

Found the address on Google Earth. On street view there is definitely a bank at that address. The sign above the door is difficult to read but it appears that it is indeed the National Bank of New York.

^^^ Remember, the only good slaps are the ones where you mislead them while being a good victim. Ideally, you want them to become even less believable, and simultaneously more invested in you as a victim.

My personal favorite is to include a reference to being previously scammed, somehow, without casting an ill light on the current scammer.

"The last time I did a money order, I lost $2,000 and it never got picked up! I'm not doing that again. Those WU people can't be trusted!" Stuff like that makes you look appealing, and makes it look like you trust the lad completely by diverting all suspicion away from the deal itself.

Have to do some further digging on a bank's financial reports, MarkStJohn. Could be a small private bank that only handles specific customers.

One thing about this bank is that I could not find it on the list of "failed" banks.
