From March 1st, the ASA’s online remit will be extended to cover marketing communications on organisations’ own websites and in other non-paid-for space under their control. The UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing (the CAP Code) will apply in full to marketing messages online, including the rules relating to misleading advertising, social responsibility and the protection of children.

From their site :

This affects UK based companies and must be useful to us in some way or another.
Not that I could find who we'd report sites to, but obviously scam sites containing what are in effect, blatant lies, ought to be covered by this change in the Law.

Are there any site killers around who could take a deeper look at this as see what they can do for us (and we for them?)

The ASA is a trade body, self-regulating and not a legal entity. As such they can tell a company off, and are relying on shame to make them toe the line. The company can, of course, completely ignore them, but most don't. They can make it tricky to buy advertising space in major outlets for serial offenders. Hardly the skinning we'd want!

The ASA process takes WEEKS (I sometimes whine about misleading ads to them, they don't rush these things) as they put the complaint to the advertiser, who responds, then they produce a summary of the position, seek experts if needed, and adjudicate before action.

As such it won't trouble the lowlife scum we deal with, and is more or less irrelevant to our activities.
