Hi. Wow! I never imagined an organization like this existed. I was researching internet scams on Wikipedia and came across this site. I've been getting a lot of 419s lately and have dealt with them in a variety of ways. I used to just tell them to f--- off, but someone on Yahoo!Answers inspired me to get more creative. I would decline the offer and instead ask VERY inappropriate questions about the lad's wife and/or daughter(s) and/or mother, grandmother... I'd describe what I'd like to do and asked for nude photos. I enjoyed trying to offend them.
Another lad told me that Mr. Jones Tsai was trying to pass himself off as me and collect "my" money. I wrote back saying I suspected Jones would do something like that and I was going to hunt him down and kill him, because that's what I do to people who try to scam me. I hoped I was scaring the crap out of him.
The best one, though, was where I gave the lad the address and phone number of the police station in the next town. I said my name was Ed Brown, and didn't tell him who the address and number belonged to. He fell for it! He actually called looking for Ed! He said they told him there was no Ed Brown there, so I said I worked as a custodian at the station and that they let me use the phone and internet once in a while. Eventually, I couldn't keep up the act and told him I was wasting his time.

If you could not do that next time it is better to keep the scammer wondering.. Laughing

Thanks for the advice. That was a few weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything more about it. Actually, I have two Yahoos and a Hotmail. I even took an address from one Yahoo account and cold-called it with the other one. I offered him a faux spam regarding internet porn involving his wife, daughter, etc. (I'm always kind enough to offer to let him watch the proceedings)
I'm just doing this casually for laughs/doing what's right. These schmucks obviously have more time to cook up scams than I have to thwart them.

Great to have you here - we encourage creative thinking and fresh baiting ideas here, but you will also find a lot of useful info from seeing what has worked for other people, and you may find you enjoy co-baiting with other members too Smile

Just to add to the Danes' pieces of advice.

We usually don't involve innocent third parties (ITPs) in our baits, and in this case it looks like the police were ITPs. Never mind READ & LEARN and most of all ENJOY scambaiting

Some members post baits, some don't. If you want to, you can publish a bait in it's entirety in the "Publish your work" forum. You can post highlights here in the main scambaiting forum or you can post bits of it in the scambaiting help forum if you want feedback or advice. It's up to you.
