hey people. I just returned from a trans-african trip. Took lots of piccies , some of those could be on interest for "safaris" . There are some in really horrific/dangerous/ places , that surely our lads would be willing to visit.

This could be a fantastic proof of a meeting point in NJamena , Chad.

This is in Ninguimi (Border beetween Niger and CHad ) . The most VIOLENT / HOSTILE town ever. There are only drunken army people , and extorting the greatest violence/extorsion towards everyone . They even tried to rape my wife ! .... so get the idea.

If the lad makes it out alive from that bar , I ll pay some beers.

inside Ninguimi ,here is the biggest motherfucker. It is not very clear on the picture but he is drinking beer , smoking and getting the gun with the right hand .

Surely a good "contact" for our lads.

(I almost get shot for taking this picture , btw)

ok , enough of Chad/Niger.

IN Cameroon , there is a village named "SomaLoma" (Dja reserve) . It is most dificult to arrive there . Perpetual rains make the road trully impasable for every vehicle . I was driving this 4x4 ,and tookme 3 days to make 40 km of muddy trucks. Normal african taxi/vans are known to spend weeks bogged down in the mud.

Surely a starting point for a Church ? Or one of those confortable camps ?
or the meeting point of something ?

Parking of one of the most expensives hotels in NJamena (Chad ) . In front of the Novotel. And It is ruled by chinesse ex-pats that CANT' STAND black people . They would be dealt' with the greatest of the violence if found wandering on the parking .

Chad Cameroon Border. Impossible to stay still there . One most move or .... face the consecuences. Crossing from one side to another is a bloody nightmare of paperwork and bribes . Police arent' too happy either.

What a charming place to be stredded a couple of days ...

Thank you - bookmarked!
Right now, I'm travelling, but in march, I'll be back home and try to enhance the dark picture. Photoshop can work miracles.

yep , we made it alive... although I caught malaria in Northern Cameroon.

The rape-atempt incident was in the aforementioned "Ninguimi" a lone borderpost in the desert ,beetween Niger and Chad.

We were sleeping in the car (rear converted into a bed ) , and some dudes -later identified as soldiers!) open very carefull the rear door and dragged my wife out of the car.

We obviously woke up , I had sort of a machete at hand , and during the stand-off , more people start coming , so the 3 dudes left the scene. Later on ,after reporting in some hut that apparently was the police station , we were allowed to sleep inside , with the cops .

This has been the most serious incident in Africa in 5 trans-african trips I ve done.

@dionbouton , So why do you do the trans-African trips? I would not mind doing one or two myself. Did a couple tours of Iraq when it was "hot". Sort of miss the action.

A collegue at work told me about his experience in the third class of a train in niger. at this moment, I felt really sorry with the lads.

completely stuck for hours between people with chickens and other animals, he could barely move.

afterwards, I asked myself, if a train enthusiast magazine would need a new gallery of train transportation in africa Twisted Evil

@dionbouton...

I'm so glad you and your wife made it out safely. Excellent pictures, and I'm sure you saw much beauty as well. At least, I hope so.

In the future, perhaps you and your wife will want to send the lads on safaris and not yourselves?! Wink

Again, glad you're back safely, and thank you for sharing the pics.
