I am actually considering making the shooters sandwich for my new years eve party. But i might have to get rid of the mushrooms and replacing it with something more edible. Perhaps sun dried tomatoes. Or cheese as Irish suggested. |

Pasties and Scrumpy

Sounds like names for cats!!
I vaguely remember what a pastie is, but don't remember Scrumpy. But it's been 20 years or so since my visits to Scotland and a LOT of alcohol consumed there. |

Pasties & Scrumpy native to SW England only, not Scotland.
Pasties; Lamb or Beef with bits of swede, carrots, onions & seasoning sealed and cooked in pastry (originated in Cornwall hence the 'Cornish' prefix).
Scrumpy: Rough apple cider, very potent.
1st choice fare of many Gloucester Rugby Club supporters.

There's a good beer festival in the North East of England that brings many tasty scrumpy ciders up for the Wurzels.
A few years ago I tried 14% Gazza's Tears and the night quickly became a blur after a few of those. It's been reduced to 11% the past few years but still sells out before anything else. |

Pasties are eaten quite a bit in the coal mining areas of America, as the miners (at least 20 yrs) ago would take them down in the mines in their lunch pails as the recipes had been passed on down from immigrants from their homelands. |

Well, we have poutine and beer. If anyone wants to complain about poutine and beer, I don't know what to say. |
Fellow Canuck here. *sigh* Poutine and beer...love 'em both, but not at the same time.
I make my own poutine at home. It's sooo good! |

Mr. Ding and I live just outside Montreal and we always drink our beer cold.
We can buy beer from depanneurs aka convenience stores seven days a week, from eight in the morning until eleven at night. We can also buy wine and cider at the deps though we rarely do. |

My mother was Scottish born and I visited the UK several times, though I haven't been across the pond in many years.
Nothing beats British fish and chips. I used to like to eat in local curry houses and I absolutely love Scottish meat pies. |

@ Bart Fargo I received my shipment of the B&M canned brown bread with raisins yesterday. Now, as we say down South, I am in tall cotton.
If anyone has a good Yorkshire Pudding recipe send it to me via PM.
I took a loan out and got a nice Standing Rib Roast so we will have prime rib for Christmas and hopefully make a Yorkshire Pudding as well as my former MIL.
Oh, Pastor Frank, MIL is Mother In Law - since you don't do text-speak.
BTW, is anyone familiar with Baby's Head Pudding? I think it is a Brit recipe. Graham Kerr made it on t.v. one time. I know it has beef kidney in it so was thinking it might be British. |

The is a Corninsh (possible colonists?) connection though. Seems the early citizens of the Eatsern U.P. dispatched militia to aid British troops at the outset of the War of Independance. Oops! |

Promite is nicer imo. Whichever you try, the trick is to spread very very very thinly. Most first timers to these make the mistake of spreading too thickly.
I love Aussie cuisine. Some of the UK ones make me cringe at just the thought of the ingredients. I lived with my english grandmother for several years growing up and thank goodness she never tried to cook any of those traditional English recipes for us. |
