Hi all,
I ran an add for my son's house for tenants. Got about 12 scammers in 2 days. Sent to my gmail account & got onto them.
They all have the same theme. Father wants unit for his daughter who is studying in the UK. She is moving to Aus & he wants to pay up front as he is in India.
Now I have never done accomadation scams before & having lots of fun describing the filthy rooms, how she can make extra money dancing in the bar & other extra jobs. View of the sewerage plant, etc. Anyway this guy keeps coming back & wanting more. He is way off script but came back with the 'I want to pay you in advance' line.
I don't want to bait for $'s (& it's against Eater policy).
Is there a bogus account in the tools that I can give him? I'm not sure if he will accually send money. Maybe he'll send more via cheque & want the excess back. I don't know......Yet?
Just wanted to be prepared with some type of bank account? Should I just make up a totally imaginary bank & account that won't work?
What do you think? Any suggestions appreciated?

He has no intention of sending any real money. These scams are almost invariably fake check scams. He will want to send the check for the apartment, but will tell you that he is sending extra and he wants you to forward the rest to her travel agent/school/furniture store/personal psychic/whatever. From there it's just a classic fake check/overpayment.

I thought that might be the case. He hasn't said he would send a cheque though & keeps wanting a bank account. (about 4 times now).
Just thought I'd check.
If it does come to cheques that is fine. I can have fun with him & keep the cheque as a trophy (not banking it of course).
I just get the feeling he is headed somewhere else continuing with the account demands.

Does the asshole have your real life information? If he does, drop him. You can always post his information here (with headers and the original email), and others can have a crack at him. Or you can bait him from a fake email account. We have check baiters that specialize in this sort of thing.

If he wants a bank account, again it'll only be to flash with stolen money (from a phished online bank account), so just like the cheque, it'll be reversed once you've withdrawn the money, then debt, doom and dismal overdraft fees...

If talking about payments goes along the line of him sending you more than the deposit/rent/whatever so you can send the balance to a third party via western union, well that's proof positive. You would then propose that if he's so keen on WU/MG that he sends the payment that way to you. Then hear the excuses start flying

I bait 'Room for Rent' Scammers and Dorothy has described what happens with every one of them.

If you post the opening mail that you have received -(as per Pastor Frank)- I'll certainly bait him to see if he has some other angle on the scam.

It could be that he is only asking for a bank account from you to test your compliance to his scam. He may not even check to see if it's real. This is what happens in a lot of check scams. So, you could just send him all fake details of your fake "credit union that does not accept overseas transfers."
Focus on getting your money from him, and I'm sure he will send a fake check. Since you are a Premium Member, take advantage of our dropbox to receive your check from the lad. If the location of the dropbox causes problems, stall the lad a bit and work into your bait that you are visiting a family member for whatever reason you feel like telling him. You can pick up his check there at your family member's house. Oh, no! Something happens, and you could be in for an extended stay there! You can ask the dropbox holder to scan your check and email the scan to you, or pay postage and the check can be sent to you, with FAKE written all over it.
Don't have the check sent to your real life address at home or work, or to a friend's house. Don't forget, these guys are criminals, and they could have people nearby you that work with them. Smile

Unfortunately he then started asking for rent before thekeys would b sent and sad he would send pictues of hs wife. He sent picturesof a man and continues to ask for money. Now, he has our information and I have NO CLUE what to do.
