not sure i have enough time to spend on it seriously
although i am stringing along one lad who caught my interest (i get several 419s or similar phishers every week) just to see where it would lead -- then i discovered this site with more ideas that i can use on him -- so far just the stall - although hoped for achieving a safari with a happy ending

^^^While a lad may get in here (the main forum or something), I don't think they can fake being a baiter. I think it would be noticed. While they could possibly read stuff, I don't think they'd understand it. To them, we make no sense. We do it without getting paid or asking for money—something totally alien to them.

So far as an expectation that a mod would answer that question--that's up to them. A search would show that some areas are behind log-ins.

I had one other lad refer to 419 eater

Scammers do sign up from time to time--one recently signed up and posted in the phone lads forum, trying to pose a a satisfied customer of his character. The post is still there--we left it up.

Of course if they post anything at all, they usually give themselves away pretty fast, but we mods have other ways to ID them too.

As Dwatina said, the vast majority of them simply can't comprehend what we are doing, even if they read it--not only because of language problems, but also because they just don't understand the concept of what we do.

Stalling a lad (also known as "straight-baiting") is always a good thing. Safaris are difficult to achieve. Failure is more likely than success so don't be disappointed if it doesn't work out. But a failed safari attempt isn't necessarily the end of the bait. I currently have a lad I tried to safari a month or so ago. The attempt failed but we are still best friends and I may take another run at a safari (from a different angle) in the near future. Very Happy

I remember it took me quite a while to understand the forums before I joined. I still see phrases I do not know the meaning of and I see baiters who have been around for a few months that ask for clarification on terms. I think most of the postings would be like trying to read riddles for most lads. Plus the fact that they are not going to understand the concept of spending our time waisting there time with no monetary gain like others have said.

I remember recently a google happy lad on safari discovered a thread and dropped the safari but thought the baiter was a scammer and offered him a job.

I can fill a few in for you.

mtcn = Money Transfer Control Number. The number that you get when you send money by Western Union (WU) or Money Gram (MG).

asem = Accidentally Sent E - Mail. When you send a mail by "accident" to a scammer. Good if you want to skip the scripts and have the bait on your terms.

pet = referral to the lads. The scammers, we sometimes gives them the name pet, as in "my pet sent me this mail"

baiter = What we do here is bait scammers, therefore we are referred to as baiters

dollachop = When you create a made up scammer and then claims that you sent your lads money to him instead. Usually pisses the lads of a lot. There are many ways of doing it, one is to claim you got a mail from his secretary and that you sent the money to the secretary. Usually done when the lad asks why you haven't sent him his money.

You're on a site called 419eater.com and you want someone to tell you what the word "eater" means?? it's a site about scamBAITing and you want someone to tell you what a BAITer is? if you were on a site about singing, would you ask what a singer did?

I find that the difficulty of finding terms is oddly self-selecting.

If you're not going to spend the time looking for meanings/methods or PMing mentors/other members for advice (who btw are very helpful) than you probably won't last long anyways.

I am thinking I don't want to waste my time playing games with these sorts of folks. The helpful folks are encouraging, but the naysayers are winning out in helping me to decide to stop after the one I have on the hook.

Not a troll - just an overeager noob who has had a lad on the hook and then discovered this site. Hoping to learn fast, which some people have helped with, but apparently others resent it and me for their own reasons.

Especially when they don't already know all the slang and abbrevs yet.

Worse is the extreme verbosity and lack of organisatoin. The core info needs to be condensed, organised, and put into a booklet.
More than the welcome page. Less than the Uni.

Worse is the erroneous judgements.
I want to know how/when to get the police involved to protect a neighbor that is being scammed and to convince them they are being taken. Next I get accused of trying to start threads. GMAFB.

Somebody should put that link above in the uni and sticky it at the top. If you dont know the jargon you cant understand the rest.

To suggest that our members are unwelcoming of newbs is crass. We wouldn't have lasted as long as we have or been half as successful if we weren't able to grow and absorb newcomers to scam-baiting. I'd suggest that the onus lies on you in this case.

You were given advice on how to deal with a neighbour. The accusation about starting threads was a fair one - you've been here about 72 hours and already started more posts than many of our long term members manage in a lifetime.

Sorry, I can't agree with your statement. Looking through this thread, you have members of long standing here giving you advice, answering your questions in here, and all the other threads.

This is very much self help site, if you feel that searching for information is beyond you, or too much trouble, then you won't make it trying to bait lads.

I have never seen any new person in Eater disparaged for asking questions, I have seen though, people castigated for asking questions then ignoring the advice given. Most of us have invested a lot of personal time gaining enough knowledge and skills dealing with lads to help anyone get up to speed and start baiting safely, efficiently, and effectively..

If you feel that some of the answers you have received in your threads have been a bit harsh, sorry, but we have been around a long time compared to other baiting sites, there is a wealth of knowledge held here, both in the stickies, Eater U, and amongst the collective memories and threads of Eater Members.

Ask questions by all means, but please don't tell us how to run our site without making the effort to understand what we do.

I spent a few months reading in here without joining, after I joined I found help was more than readily given, and the "culture" of Eater was more easily understood from the amount of reading that I had done before starting to bait.

I suggest you read up a lot more in here, Each forum has it's own master list of guidelines in the stickies, this is not some 2 day cram course certificated course. Read the forums, read the stickies, read Eater U.
