I live near a retirement community (senior citizens) in California.

They have a weekly newspaper which runs a column on "Scam Alerts".

This little gem appeared two weeks ago:

He called and said he was from Global Winners International out of Las Vegas.
He wanted her to send $139 through Western Union and she would get her prize.

The caller was pushy and wanted her to run quickly to Western Union and send the money.
She toyed with him on the phone, but knew that real contest winners do not have
to send money to receive winnings.

Great story CowboyBuck.

When my mom (78 yrs old) got a call about winning something (she doesn't enter ANY type of contests so she knew that it was a scam) she tell them to hang on while she goes and gets a pen & paper. Then she lays the phone down and goes back in about 1/2 hour and see if they are still there. Laughing

Got love her for her quick wit.
