Dad being scammed

Need some advise, my dad is being scammed at the moment & won't listen to us, children & our mom. He has sent some money to a few different people on different scams.

One in particular he spoke to on the telephone. We installed filters in his email to block the person but since they communicate on the phone, it is hard to block this scammer. I don't think the police here can be of much help.

Is there anyway to stop him from being scammed further?

thx for the link. I was thinking along the lines of diverting the scammer or breaking the scam. My dad lost a bit of trust in the scammer when no emails were forth coming from them earlier.

I went as far as sending an email (pretending to be another scammer) writing an angry email (using foul language and all to the real scammer cc to my dad) in hope of disrupting the communication but that did not have the effect.

Anyway, I truly appreciate the work & effort all the baiters do to slow them down. I wonder if they is a way to really make it hard for these guys?

We can do stuff to our best to annoy the lad, but we'd need the proof to start with. Can you post more info on the lad that had gone to the phone?
Do you have the original emails (I know you've filtered stuff, but hopefully it is still on hand somewhere?) Please include the headers so it can be verified, then we ought to be able to contact the lad by email and phone and keep him entertained.

Hope you got good help at Scamwarners, there are some very helpful people there who should be able to assist in warning your dad about what is going on.

My advice is to rip you Dad's Ethernet cable out of the wall until you can convince him it's a scam, seriously.

@ Inspector Gadget - in my haste, I deleted the emails Sad

I didn't know about headers till a few days ago. Now the emails are only mild conversation about bank transfers etc w/o "proof" of the original scam.

I might b able to dig out printed emails later the house as "proof" & the headers will be recent mail.

How about posting the lads email on the web someone on a guestbook somewhere so he get's buried under a ton of scam mails?

Just to share, a few years back, another relative got scammed too. From what i seen & heard (real life & on utube interview), once these ppl got their hooks in the victims, we r fighting a losing battle.

Just in a few days of baiting, I've asked web hosts to take down 2 fake bank site one of which is the same one I saw in my dad's email. But it is just a matter of moving to another host.

I'll look closer to see how scamwarners can help.

You say that the police can't help.
They can.

You need to go to them with all of the information that you've given here.
They should arrange for an officer to make a visit and put your father straight.
The sight of an official uniform telling him that he's being scammed may be enough to show him the light.

Either way, you've nothing to lose by doing this, and everything to gain.
