Hey All,

I've had this nagging question for a while. I'm sure most of you are aware of http://www.419baiter.com/guestbook/ where you should post with your catcher account to get lads.

My question is, what quality of leads do you guys actually get from this?

Wouldn't this be "badger central" (IE: Scam-baiter-baiters who like to waste a scam baiter's time as much as we scam baiters like to waste scammers' time)?

Wouldn't the "lad community" be aware at some level of the staged-ness of this site? It has "419" in the very name, wouldn't this be a red flag for them? Else, wouldn't the site get a "reputation" with them, much as the P.O. Boxes that premium members have access to?

What thoughts/experiences do you guys have with this?

Arrgh, mateys!

--The Commodore

A reasonable question, Commodore, but methinks, matey, you may misunderstand how the scamming game works. Lads will typically throw a format to 1,000s of email addresses hoping to get just a few nibbles. I don't know the details but I'm fairly certain most lads get (purchase?) massive lists of email addresses from someone who harvests them from the internet using some sort of software. In other words, nobody pays attention to (or even knows) the source of the address. I'm sure there are more tech-savvy members here who can explain this process in more detail.

Regarding badgers... the conventional wisdom around here is that they are a very rare breed. I have only come across one in my time here. He was a hitlad that turned out to be some eater member's friend baiting baiter's as a joke (if memory serves). Consider this, what's in it for the badger? He isn't going to make any money (the scammer's motivation). He doesn't even get that satisfaction of knowing he has made it difficult for a scammer to cheat an honest person out of their money. If all he wants is the fun of jerking someone around, he can do that to scammers.

I use the guestbook you reference almost exclusively to fill my catcher account and I guarantee the vast majority of the scam emails are from scammers. Want proof? Sign the guestbook, wait a week, then pick however many scam emails you feel are sufficient to test your hypothesis. Bait them but play it absolutely straight - no jerking them around with bogus questions, demands for documents, etc. Let the lad lead you where he wants you to go. In the vast majority of cases, the lad will be asking you for REAL money within two weeks. A badger can't do this because then, by definition, he is no longer a badger and is now a scammer.

Very happy to have you with us, Commodore. Rest assured if you use that guestbook you won't be wasting your time on badgers! Very Happy

Baiting a baiter just wastes more of the scammers time.

Its a win-win situation.

In 100 words or less: Guy in asia harvests addresses off the net and advertises via spam/websites ect. Lads can pay about $200 for an area of the world (approx 2mill addresses), ie I don't like Australia, so I would buy the Asia/Pacific list. I spam that list & you start baiting me. So the lads don't really know where the addresses come from. It's just a bot doing the crawling round the web.

I did try buy one of these lists off a guy a few months back on yahoo messenger, but I got a bit out of my depth on the software that was being used & the guy didn't like me trying to beat down his price. I got accused of being a Nigerian when I was winding him up. Then we had issues with WU and it just ended up with both of us abusing each other (very good entertainment when you are trying to pretend you can't speak english well).

Sure it does, there must be a problem with your PC.
Razz

If a scammer tries to bait a baiter (to draw their attention away from other scammers), then all they are doing is wasting their own time.

I actually thought that our old friend Alex was trying to do this, as we took lots of interest due to him b eing more than happy to hold up signs saying whatever we wanted him to.

The before mentioned guestbook is a 100% risky free way to load up you catcher account with plenty of lad letters. I get around 50 a day. Like the before post mentioned the lads somehow buy I am assuming the email list. I believe the guestbook is somehow optimized for the spammer email gathers to collect the address through their software and sell it to the lads but that us just a hunch.
I do not think the lads are going to the guestbook and getting the email addresses how would they find it? They would have to search 419 and I do not see them doing that. Nor do they have the software to harvest the email addresses that has to be done by a third party who sells them off to lads and spammers alike.
My Favorite lad letters are the ones that say "I saw your profile on 419baiter.com". Just proves they are not paying attention to where the addresses come from. It is a numbers game for them just like when I send out ASEM.

As far as badgers go from what I hear they are so few and far between not worth worrying about.

I choose not to pull back the curtain just know it works!

Leaving your address on said guestbook will bring you mostly scam mails and not the usual viagra rolex spam in a huge quantity.
And I am sure that some lads just love this guestbook for source, as the first offers came in only few hours after leaving my address there.

I have posted there different addresses at different times, and do not receive the same input with this catchers.

^^ and I am thinking that is because list are pulled reguraly and sold to different lads. I have experienced the same thing and pull addies from separate catcher accounts as to not duplicate my ASEM to the same lads at least as seldom as possible.

I just don't see lads going to a site called 419 baiters and getting email addresses to send scam letters to. I mean some are pretty stupid but you would have to only have two brain cells left and they would have to spend most of their time fighting each other.
I'm thinking that the third party selling the addies has figured out it is a good source to supply their mugu clientel with fresh addies.

This is all speculation I truely have no idea how it works just know it does. Laughing
