To start, I'd like to say that I am super excited about this! It just may become an addiction of mine!

I've initiated my first bait with an ip address coming from 196.201.37.x

After finding the 419 Encyclopedia Dramatica article and stumbling here, I know this would be a fulfilling sport! Ive initiated two baits and only had one response. I have a question.

Question 1:

The first bait came from my actual, personal email..I responded saying I was interested. [I actually responded with the EncyclopediaDramatica shock site pre-made message response for scammers. hehehe.]] He responded wanting info. I responded again that a business partner would most likely be interested. Then I emailed from a baiting email.

Is this bad? I do not intent to have any further involvement with my personal email. Even if it means losing the bait if I ignore the lad.

I googled my personal email, and it isn't really tied to any social sites of mine or doesn't give away any pertinent information.

Question two:

Does anyone know if AOL.com email's are safe? I know my personal mail is a yahoo address and the header gives away IP addresses :/

I have already initiated a bait with an AOL.com email. I suppose when I bring my Accountant and Attorney into the picture, they will definitely be gmail.

PS
Also, I understand the mentor program is not active Sad
However, if anyone is interested, even if they're a newbie as well and want to do a tag team coordination, I'm willing to share my baiting email info. It's really no loss to me even if it's messed up.

Welcome to the site. Laughing

The mentor program only becomes active after you have posted try it again.. Laughing

In answer to your question for the first few baits it is better to play the victim, this is straight baiting, once you have the lad on the line then you can start bringing in other characters

You can ask questions on the forums

Sounds like a plan! I have already jumped into the "CEO of an Investment Institution" role. So if he doesn't bite I'll be more passive/clueless next time.

are you sure that is the originating IP? I looked it up and it didn't lead me anywhere.

The IP addy of the lad should be the first or second one from the bottom of the full header, if I'm not mistaken.

Also, you could always get a gmail, or alternate email that masks the IP and just tell your lad that you will be using this new email from now on because (insert reason here). Or just pick up the conversation from the new email--I doubt the lad will even notice.

I would not use an email that gives away even my approximate location--but that is just me.

Basic advice is to NEVER do that, under any circumstances.

If a scam comes to your personal email, just open up another account and reply from there. The lads won't notice, and you really don't need the whole redirect thing to keep them hooked.

While it is extremely unlikely the lad will ever go after you, I'd drop him now and pick him up from another address, or have one of us take care of him. Never do anything in your baiting with any links whatsoever to your real self.

uh-oh!... on.nimp.org Evil or Very Mad

Been to that domain a few times.... never again.
Zoy/ shock sites are banned on 419, so it might be a good idea to remove the link Wink

The one you have baited from your personal account, drop entirely.
You want to connection between your personal account, and anything you will use to wind criminals up. Wink
Use gmail Smile

Like Vampiremerchant said, the mentor program only lets you join after a few posts Smile

In my opinion, you can be either of the characters. They are only characters after all.

Good luck, dive in, there's a pile of 419 emails in the surplus forum waiting for you - http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18

here are the headers. My ip is expired now though. It turns out it's not static from the ISP, so now it points to a completely different state Smile

And i suppose i will drop this one and make a new email, moving on to the next. There is already another one in my personal email. instead of acknowledging it at all, i'll respond from a more safe location.

I think i will also play the poor victim for a while.

thanks for the tips!
