What is so special about this third email I've seen mentioned? I can guess that it's some kind of break point that you have to get through, but I would like to know more. Please fill me in!

I can't, unfortunately. I just saw it a few times while browsing the forum. I'll take another look around but can't guarantee I'll find it.

If you are counting your emails and the lad's, I think I know what you mean.
Email 1 - the initial scam.
Email 2 - the baiter's reply (which the lad often doesn't bother to read).
Email 3 - the first email from the lad sent in the belief that he's found a victim. The bait really starts here.

Email 1: Copy and Pasted Script (Greetings, I need help and I am lost in..)
Email 2: Another Copy and Pasted Script (I'm glad you replied, you are instructed to..)
Email 3: They finally acknowledge you. You may notice their English has gotten worse. (no no you need mtcn. hurry. pleace..)

That was your baby irish. I suspect it was the time/space vaccuum caused by Steward's removal that caused the rip in the trousers.

Asimov went back and read his Foundation trilogy many years later. There are times when I wonder if the lads read their first three responses. I have a barrister that just called me a Mr. I've already sent him 20 megs worth of cheese cake photos of my character.

I know this has been answered but I just wanted to back Peece (and answer evil_sheep) that I had also seen this. It'll probably be in the Eater U and other hints and tips articles, which is why we'll have seen it but it may not be so familiar to older members.

Here's one that I found, mentioned quite often throughout the post, I think I've seen it in other places too though.

That's the thread I saw it in! I don't see where it says (in that thread) what's so special about the third email though, which is why I asked.

If you can get a lad past the third email, which is about where his script starts to run out, and still have him emailing, his investment time becomes greater, and he is more likely to start believing in your story, no matter where you take it.

Trying to get a bank account from a lad when all he knows is "send WU MTCN now" isn't as easy as it seems at times. Which is why getting past the "third email" is seen as a good start to any bait.

There is another "third email" to which some of us have alluded, but at the risk of awakening the undead, it is never mentioned.

..........the bushes beside the stream parted, and a tattered, blood streaked shape fell out. Plunging into the water he watched as the stream became reddened and stained with blood.............
