I know. Isn't it ridiculous that kids are warned of predators online but not scammers. |
That's actually a fair point, come to think of it. Just about everyone's heard the horror stories about kids getting kidnapped, but very few people realise just how many lives are ruined every year by these guys. |

Here's another idea. A grass-roots movement. Bring up the subject
at PTA meetings at the school. At those "Town Hall" meetings.
Actually, I recall that Chris Hansen of NBC news did a 1-hour special
on the 419 scam. The news and camera crews even traveled to Africa
and Lagos and took the cameras into the Internet cafes.
We need more investigative journalists to do more stories more often.
6 degrees of separation, and we're networking here at this site.
somebody knows somebody in the media. be it print, radio, or TV.
MG and WU have warnings at their website. Did someone tell you that you won a lottery?, do you know this person you're sending money to??
They have to ask at the desk also. I told the young lady at my local
MoneyGrab outlet that I'm a scambaiter. She said there was a little old
lady sending money where she shouldn't but there was no talking her out of it. They have anti-discrimination rules to follow. |

See, this makes us all mad as hell doesn't it? Elderly ladies being conned and needing to believe that it's genuine.
A few years ago I was in a desperate financial situation and almost fell for a scam because I needed to believe it was true. Luckily I stopped myself and checked online and slapped myself for being almost stupid - but so many people have a desperate need to believe that something's above board. What if.. what if .. |
