A Frenchman who thought he had found a wife in Nigeria over the Internet was instead scammed out of 25,000 euros by a man pretending to be a woman, authorities said on Tuesday.
Two suspects, Omodara Adedapo Oluseye and Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo, both 27, have been arrested over the alleged scam, Nigeria's anti-corruption agency said in a statement. They have pleaded not guilty.
Authorities say Oluseye was pretending to be a woman when he met the victim over the Internet in May 2009 and the two later agreed to get married. |

^Um - what's shivved?
Do we know what the general view of scammers is amongst prisoners? Are they acknowledged and likely to meet/join a gang or pick up tips? Or are they viewed as the lowest of the pecking order and a target for the others?
Nice to know that some action has been taken by the authorities, at least. |

There are no set demarcation lines between different strata of criminals in Nigeria, as elsewhere, but I believe that the average 419 scammer is likely to be more educated and less violent than the average 'corner boy' or street gang member, who is likely to rule the roost in prison.
The average 419 scammer would be terrified of the idea of going to prison in Nigeria, or anywhere in that part of the world. |
