Turns out it was a scam

So this is weird. I was baiting one Ruth, typical next of kin stuff, and repeating all the typical lines, back and forth for a while Then at some point, she passes me on to the bank manager. So I follow her directions for contacting the bank manager, and there is no response. SO after a few days, i write Ruth back saying no one answered, I hope we can still be friends, is there any other way I can help, bla bla bla. Right away she sends me this letter, still under the e-mail name Ruth.

Ask what happened to the money you sent by WU, has it been picked up, and do they want the MTCN to check for you?

That will sort that out fairly quickly.

We never even got to that stage. I was supposed to sent the WU to the bank, but they never wrote me back.

But your lad doesn't know that. As IE suggested, write back and tell her that the banker did get in touch with you (before you saw her last e-mail) and you had sent the funds. See if the lad changes their tune.
