I was approached by "Sarah" on Zoosk. (a dating site)
Stupidly enough I gave "her" my e-mail address.
After all a dating site is to get dates, right?
"She" sounded very convincing until "she" said that her deceased father has property in Nigeria which she can now claim.
This made me suspicious so I traced "her" e-mail address.
And yes the e-mail originated in Nigeria.
So while I was chatting I pinged "her" IP address. Then I knew "her" computer was physically in Nigeria.
I did not let on that I know.

The problem is that now they could know my IP address.
The way "she" sounds is like a woman; how can a guy disguise himself that much as a woman.
Anyway any suggestions here?

Hi avenger,

Your IP address will probably locate to the city or large town where your Internet Service Provider is. There will be thousands of people living in that city or large town (which might be a long way from where you live anyway), so the scammer won't know who you are from the IP address.

However, as this scammer knows your real-life dating profile, and email address and possibly some other details about you, please don't have any further contact with him - just completely ignore any future emails you receive from him.

Scammers have had lots of practice at telling lies, so many can pretend to be somebody else quite skillfully. And if a scammer needs a female voice for a telephone call, then he will ask his wife, or girlfriend, or sister or some other woman to do it for him. Some women friends may be very good at this, others may need the scammer to prompt her into what to say next.

If you have any further questions, you will be able to find the best help and support at our sister site, ScamWarners:

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?
