Hey all,

This question has been lurking in the back of my mind for awhile now, so I thought I'd post it here:

How much exercise do you get per week and of what variety?

Baiting is about as sedentary as it gets, and many of our jobs are equally so. That said, when the time comes to put down the junk food and the beer (or is it just me?) and unchain yourself from the computer, what do y'all do to stay fit?

Here's what I do:

Weight training/circuit training 4 days/week

I play hockey. One training and one match a week, when it's not summer or winter break. During summer break I try to go running every so often (but usually don't) and during winter break I go speed skating (on ice that is, not on wheels) and/or take part in a indoor hockey competition.

Same as Craig, plus I love to cook and eat a good piece of meat. Last year's health check said my heart's fine and my back & abs muscles are about 170% of the average for my age. Eat your hearts out, salad-munching health nuts!

Let's see.. Weekdays I use my bycicle to go to uni which is about 22km (about 13 miles) - single way. So that's 220km/130 miles a week on the bike, with an average of 25 km/h (15,5 mph) with a basic bike. Walking the dog 3 times a week, 5km (3 miles). Playing tennis 2x2hrs/week, at least.

That's the average week for me Smile

I go out on my bike a couple times a week, mainly to clear my head. On average I think I get about 60 miles a week done. Smile.

Gives me time to listen to Bluth's show on my iPod too. Razz.

I walk - an hour in the morning, 4-5 times a week, plus an hour in the evening (weather permitting!) 3-4 times a week (not necessarily the same days).

In the past year, I am down from 200 pounds to 175!

Wifey ridicules me everytime she sees me on the computer. She shames me into exercising. Ya see, she's an uber-athlete and could tear my legs off at will. She races bicycles and rides ~400 miles per week. Shocked She keeps telling me:

Up until about this time last year, I used to do weight training about 5 - 7 times a week. These days, if I get around to it once a week, I consider it an achievement. Embarassed

As for running and walking, tragically, my current schedule has me (involuntarily) doing that for large portions of my workdays. But I suppose I should be thankful for that. It gets to burn away all of the flab that my muscle melted to. Smile

I do far less than I should, but I play roller hockey at least once a week. That on its own is a pretty good workout, but since I've been playing with 18-22 year-olds I really have to kick it into overdrive to keep pace. Laughing

for me my job is exercise enough. You try dragging a 150kg drunk of his bar stool and out into the street. Also have to do physical/submission training with the staff. And every Wednesday we hit the gym. Me and all/most of my guards. Which is enough to fill the gym so we have a standing booking and they open to public 2 hours later on Wednesday since no one else can fit in.

Also I drink alot..... that's exercise to right?

I cycle 6 miles a day to and from work, and my job gives me plenty of exercise, walking round the car park collecting all the trolleys soon adds up the miles each day, I once worked out in an average day I do at least 5-6 miles walking!!

Walk the school run with my daughter, 2.5 miles there and back = 5 miles a day walking for me. Most weekends involve a walk through the woods/countryside or along the beach at some point too. Other than that it's just generally being active, plus swimming & dancing. Found going to the gym boring so when things start to sag/get flabby in the future, will embrace being saggy and flabby Very Happy

I put in at least 4 hours per week on the elliptical and the treadmill. About five years ago I dropped about 40 pounds and I don't want them back. Issues with the tendons and muscles in my shoulders require me to work with free weights about three times a week, but I'm not looking bulk up. I like it at 180-85 lbs.

@Juan Freizwidatt: that quote is attributed to Robert Maynard Hutchins, president of University of Chicago during the '30s and '40s. He lived to be 78, so maybe you have the right idea. Wink

I play basketball 6 hours a week.
I also started hell's own exercise program this morning (P90X).
Everybody said it was a really healthy program, but now I want to die as a result, so how good could it possibly be for me?
