When I come across some of these scam emails, I notice the return path addy to be the name from the initial scammer, but in the body of the scam you are told to contact 'this person at...'. Also if you usually hit reply, it goes to that person. Still, out of curiosity I shot off just a blank test email to the return path instead, and so far have not had a bounce/failure notice.
Which has got me wondering, has anyone decided to just bait an addy that a scammer did not originally intend?

Possibly their 'clean' account. Might be good to mass bait them on this. They probably communicate with their chums via it. |

My dim character just cannot wrap her head around the "reply to so and so" concept and always replies to the original. And she's very distrustful of these 3rd party bankers and barristers for any number of reasons. They usually resend the email then get a bit annoyed. |

If the address used to send the scam gets closed for spamming, it doesn't really matter, as victims have another address to reply to. |

I see, also of course the return path sometimes does point to a compromised email account, because some poor guy actually fell for whatever phishing attempt. Usually I see sbcglobal and att accounts, and on occasion the edu domains, which makes me really worry since too many people are a bit too careless with their own accounts.  |

^^ I was under the impression that the first email address was the drone sending out the emails (sometimes repeating within days and once within minutes!)
and the reply to was next rank lad,
and barrister/ agent/ carrier was oga man who collected the cash.
