My guess is that is not a lie. I'll bet he really is a tall man. It just doesn't seem like the kind of thing a guy would lie about - especially not to that degree. I mean, if he were really short and always wished he were taller, he would probably say some more like 6'3". Just a guess, of course, but I tend to believe him.
Many colleges in the US recruit basketball players out of West Africa. The university near where I live has a tall West African on their roster. Maybe you could get this guy hooked into a basketball scholarship recruitment/NBA big bucks fantasy. Hakeem Olajuwon was an outstanding NBA player (also about 6'10") who came from Nigeria (I think) and was principally a soccer player there before coming to the University of Houston. He is probably a legend in his homeland.
