Just a heads up for UK based folks. These guys (computer maintenance services) seem to be phoning around people telling them that they are contacting them about a previously raised computer virus issue. They claim to be London based but are not (probably India), they refuse to give out phone numbers, contact details or the name of the person who allegedly contacted them about the problem. Needless to say, this is a scam so tell them to get lost, at best they will rip off your card details, at worst they will direct you to a site which hosts a trojan (masquerading as anti virus), infect your machine and nick all your logins, so beware.

Grr... It's creeps like this that give legit freelance computer techs a bad name.
Any way to bait/hurt these guys? Evil or Very Mad

I am sure there is. Why not 'go along' with the scam; act like you are 'following' their directions, and they think that you are 'installing' the trojan virus. Listen to how frustrated they get when they are unable to connect to said victims machine for 'helping' out, and then blame THEM for their crappy directions.

That is if thats what they are offering, if not either way, just act like you are going along with their scheme, and when the call ends, maybe they will try to rack their brains on WHY they can't take control of the victim's computer they think they just compromised. Very Happy

It may not be long lasting, but it would still waste their times a bit.

i handle spam phone calls by asking the caller to wait a sec while i get a pen and paper,
then i carry on doing what i was doing, without ending the call.

How about this (this would be considered juvenile, but I think it would work well), act like you're in the restroom having a nice 'bowel movement' (to put it lightly), and certain times when you are talking to said scammer, suddenly strain your voice, also if you can find some 'fart' effects on the computer to accompany your 'straining'.

I know childish, but remember THEY called you, so...

they also have a website http://www.techonsupport.com, which helps it look like a legit business.

UK number but it puts you through to the call centre in SE Asia.
the use prefetch to try and tell you its downloading dodgy programs and they use eventvwr to try and show that your computer isnt working properly.

they get you to download a logmein client . No idea what happens after that

£55 for one year.

I was talking to 3 different ones for for 40 mins today !

That’s uncanny Happy Slacker because I had exactly the same idea a few months ago.
