I have, in the past few weeks, posted 3-4 e-mails in the surplus messages section from scammers seeking legal representation. My impression is that, while the idea of a lawyer scam is not new, it is becoming much more common.

As MTM said, this has been going on for quite a while. The newer variation uses divorce settlements rather than fake company debt.

Okay you know me. A victim is a victim but honestly just because someone is a lawyer doesn't mean he's not greedy or stupid. Have you ever talked to a lawyer before?

He was sent $367,500 and kept $185,000 for his fee. What is that, like 52%?

My experience with lawyers is some tend to think like lads. This will work because I say so and if not everything is still arguable.

The lawyer blaming the one with the deepest pockets should say a lot too.

This is not to say it's his fault. It isn't, it's the lads doing. He is still the victim of fraud no matter how you slice it. I am just saying it's more then a coincidence he is blaming (and suing) the only real source that can give him back the money that was stolen.
