This is a technical question but definitely baiting related.
A lad has sent me a 7 minute video (.wmv format) that I am dying to see. However, when I bring it up in Windows Media Player I can hear the audio but there is no video.
I'm fairly certain there is actually video content in the file. When I display it as a thumbnail in a file list, I see this:
The Properties for this file indicate the codec is Windows Media Video V8. I am using XP and Windows Media Player 11. Supposedly this codec is supported.
Does somebody a little more tech-savvy than me have any ideas why I can't see the video. I wouldn't think the file got corrupted during email transmission because the audio is clear as can be. TIA for any ideas. |

I use VLC player.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It's free and takes almost any fileformat and codec.
Also, please get it on YT for the rest of us to enjoy.  |

Try downloading the vlc media player and see if it opens the video properly: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It does sound like it is a codec issue. |

Thanks. I'll check that out. By the way, the lad was so worried I would use this video against him. I imagine he wouldn't be too pleased if it wound up on YT.  |

By all means post it on YT, I wanna see it. And then when the bait goes bad or has ended, tell him that you decided to use the video against him. I would love to read a panicked reaction. |

In case VLC refuses to play it (which is rather unlikely, VLC plays anything!), feel free to send it to me for transcoding... and (if asked for) accidental YT posting.  |

I tried to get to the VLC player web site but that site is blocked (I'm at work). I tried to run the video again using Windows Medial Player and this time it worked. Go figure...
I'm not sure this will work very well on YT as the lad speaks with a strong Nigerian accent and the audio quality is not great. I have asked him to transcribe it for me. If you are interested in this lad's history with me (it is a long and fairly one), check out this thread. I will post the video link there when I get the transcript (probably a day or two). |
