Can Anyone Explain This One? Very odd...

So I bait a handful of lads at a time, but I am good at keeping up with who is who and who their "associates, lawyers, diplomats, etc." are. Today I got an email from an address I haven't been talking to. But what's odd is that it is so random. It addresses me as "M***" when that is not my characters name (or even close to it). Also, the message doesn't fit any of the stories I am currently working on with my lads. I will copy and paste the entire message I received below. Do you think that "M**** I*****" is an innocent victim and I received this email by mistake from a careless lad? Do you think "M*** I***** is a fellow Baiter, and the lad messed up and sent the reply to me on accident? Or is "M**** I********" just another persona of the lad, and he is trying to confuse me somehow? This one really has me baffled, but maybe there is an easy explanation. Again, what is copy and pasted below was all received in one email by me today, but appears to have previous correspondences between "M****" and "Emma" included. Any thoughts?

I have removed the name and email of the person mentioned in the lad's mail as it Googles up a real person at a real company. I'll pass this on to our victim specialists at scamwarners. It definitely looks like the lad accidentally sent you mail intended for a real victim.

Wow, if that guy was really a soon-to-be victim then we just saved him big time. Looks like he was going to send $70,700 to that lad. Well there's my good deed for the day! Smile

I reckon it's an ASEM and he is hoping you adopt the role of the victim, making you think if you can raise $70k you can take over this guy's business.

In fact I am certain it's an ASEM, I doubt many victims would set-out their e-mails like that and all in capital letters.

Goodness me, what an oddity. I'd be tempted to say ASEM if it were not ALL CAPS, but caps lock is quite un-baiterly usually. But it's also quite un-vic-like too. Odd.

As for why it came to you, almost certainly a lazy lad not spending any energy on getting things right, like email addresses.

Ask a warner to chip in their 2p, they're usually very skilled baiters doing their community service over at scamwarners, and if it is a real vic, they will spanner the works.

TYPING IN ALL CAPS is not necessarily an ironclad sign of a lad. I get a surprising number of emails in my business account from customers who routinely type in all caps. Confused

Alright 2 questions....

1) I'm going to look like a true rookie here, even though I feel like I've gotten pretty damn good at certain aspects of baiting.... but anyways can somebody explain exactly what an ASEM is/stands for? I know it was something to do with pretending a message has been accidentally sent, correct? I've never really done anything with ASEM's and don't completely understand them.

2) There's varying opinions on what my original email I received was. (Lad made a mistake with a real victim and emailed me on accident OR an ASEM). My question is, what should I do with this email? As of right now it's just sat in my inbox. Should I ignore it? Reply to it? If I reply to it, how do I play it? Keep in mind this is in my Baiter Account, not my Catcher Account, and it's from somebody I have not had any contact with prior to this email.

ASEM = Accidentally Sent EMail, used so the lad thinks providence has dropped an already warm victim into his lap. ASEMs are the spam of the baiter world, often sent in large batches for a few responses, and often the respondees are very wary, but you catch a few, and it saves all that early crap.

What to do with the email, if you believe it's an ASEM, you can take advantage and pretend to be the original baiter, or if you have their address you can mail them and say "I think this must be your lad". Me, I'd play the lad as my own, just like any bait that landed halfway through.
