Hi,
I just started my very first bait and would appreciate some feedback from those who are much, much more experienced!

I picked up a Surplus Scam Letter and created a character. His name is On0frio Pol3nta B4ccalà, a 79-year old Italian friar who lives in a Clergymen Retirement Home in California. He's gentle and naive and belongs to a strange congregation called "Fr4ti C0pertini" that has a brand-new website (hours of pure delight for me in concocting and making it up - would like to post link but don't know if I can)

This gentle Man of God wrote a little email:

Quote:

PAX VOBISCUM!

I received the email but I cannot understand the meaning of the email – are you offering me some money?

Please explain better the meaning as I am an old friar (I have 79 years) who live in a Home for Elderly clergymen and English is not my mother tongue.

Thank you in advance

Bless you,

Fr. On0frio Pol3nta B4ccalà

We have acknowledged the speedy reponse to our e-mail in my desk and wish to provide you details on how you merited this huge amount of money $800,000.00 which we initially notified you via e-mail.

The United Governmentfinally met the commitments set out in the November 2001 IMFC Communiqu. The Government Britain however fully implemented the C UNSCR 1373 (Terrorism) and C UNSCR 1267(Taliban), UNSCR 1333 (Usama bin Laden) and 1390 (Taliban/UBL). Acting under the Terrorism (UN Measures) Order 2001 and the Al-Qaida and Taliban (UN Measures) Order 2002, the UK has frozen the assets of over 100 organisations and over 200 individuals. A complete list of all those listed can be found at the Bank of England website.

Before 11 September, some $90 million of Taliban assets had been frozen; since 11 September some $10 million has been frozen. Efforts were made and returned the bulk of these assets around $85million - to the legitimate Government in Kabul. Some $15million remains frozen. A founder member of the Egmont Group, the UK established an Economic Crime Unit within its National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) in 1992. A multi-agency Terrorist Finance Team was set up in NCIS in November 2001. NCIS hosts the Egmont Secretariat. The UK continues to support the provision of technical assistance and capacity building in a number of countries, funding programmes and initiatives designed to address a range of anti-money laundering, anti-terrorist financing and other counter terrorism issues. This funding is provided both bilaterally, and through contributions to multi-lateral initiatives. To further meet with individual needs, the British Finance Monitoring Unit (BFMU) through a bilateral agreement with UN, World Bank, IMF, US Government decided to meet a wide rande of individuals all around the world. To further achieve this, a selection process was carried out through random selection in our Computerized Email Selection System (C.E.S.S.) from a database of over a million email addresses from the world wide web where your e-mail address( [email protected]) was among the lucky ones selected.

However, we shall be awaiting your next response on your decision on how to safely have your funds sent to you. You are equally advised to reconfirm the following information immediately:

Fr. On0frio hardly believes and answers:

Quote:
Pax Vobiscum!
Thank you for the email. It nearly made me come a heart attack - are you sure there is no error? I read it is eight hundred thousand dollars, it seems to me an amount so huge I cannot imagine - maybe they are only 8.000 or 80.000 dollars?
Another thing that kept me awake last night is that I am afraid to do something dis-honest in keeping all these money for me who live with ease, where so many brothers and sisters are starving.
May I speak about this with my Superior, Father L4T0pa? He's younger and wiser than I am and he could give me precious conseils.
I do not want to break any secret so please tell me if I can speak of this with him.
Yours in the Almighty,
Fr. On0frio Pol3nta B4ccalà

This is the story so far. Am I doing well? I'm planning to drag it quite long, then to have poor Fr. On0frio die so his superior, Father Am0 L4T0pa (literally, "I love the... ehm, I think, pussy Embarassed can take this transaction in hand, etc. etc. etc.

Thanks for your feedback!

I like your character very much. He is:

- Polite and compliant (asking if he may speak to his Superior, instead of just going ahead and doing it): the Lad will think this is a good sign!

- Presumably having some money to spare (as he is living in ease);

- Liable to need things explaining and re-explaining (as his English may not be the best); and

- Equally likely to run into problems when he needs to do anything as complicated as transfer money.

And a good idea, too, that when the Lad's patience with the old man begins to come to its end, then the young and initially-seeming more capable Father takes over.

And sounds like it will all be fun for you to play out too. Hope it continues as well as it has started!

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?

Could you believe he didn't want Fr. On0frio talking with anyone? Laughing
So our old friar writes back:

Quote:

Pax Vobiscum!
Thank you Mr. Harcastle for your email. I feel really discombobulated about my high winning, especially because it seems I cannot speak with anyone of it. You know, I entered the Convent when I was 12 and since then I did nothing that wasn't approved by my Superior.
I was debating inside myself if I realy wanted such a big amount. I'm quite well off since my elder brother Oronzo was called to his Father's heavenly home leaving me some thousand dollars of inheritance, so I was tempted to leave these 800.000 money to poor people, then I realized with this huge amount I can do many charities all around the World!

I can supply the info you need:

YOUR FULL NAMES - Frate On0frio Pol3nta B4ccalà

YOUR DIRECT PRIVATE TELEPHONE NUMBERS *
THE NEAREST AIRPORT TO YOU. maybe Fresno
YOUR RECEIVING ADDRESS 21890 Scribbler St. Lost Hills California
YOUR OCCUPATION Retired Clergyman

*I cannot supply you a direct phone as I live in a Old-Age Retirement house and due to past bad experiences (my cell phone was cloned in Naples and I had to pay money for calls I didn't do) I don't feel like owning one, anyway all the people I care about live in the same building where I do live.

Thank you for your interessment
Yours in the Almighty
Fr. On0frio

I chose a little place in California, Lost Hills, because I liked the name Last Friday in Fr. On0frio's mailbox (i.e. mine) a new email came, introducing a new character in the plot: an attorney.

A sick, worried Fr. On0frio answered today:

Quote:
Pax Vobiscum!
Please excuse me for the delay to answer to your email.
I was quite sick in these days.
Also, I'm quite upset because Saturday a Policeman came to our Home and lectured us friars about dangers of online scams - please don't take offence as I don't say you are scammers (God forbid me!) but he put in me a uneasy feeling.
He said old people are often cheated in giving all their money to strangers! I own only about $ 30,000 that were left to me by my late brother Oronzo, these money I already destined to various charities and to have a beautiful funeral, what if I should lose them?
I would be more, more sure if I could receive an email from a Man of God (be it priest, friar or pastor) who makes me sure everything is OK.
Please, excuse me again but at my old age it is easy to be scared (I did not sleep these nights). I believe I could be your Grandfather and I am sure you will understand me.
Thank you,
Yours in the Almighty,
Fr. On0frio

I tried my best to write in bad English, translating literally from Italian (eg. "money" as a plural noun).

I hope to drag this "seasoned catholic" Confused out of his script. Very Happy

Very clever to ask for reassurance and mention the $30,000 in the same email! I think the lure of the $30,000 will bring the off-script reassurances your way!

(And yes, Branwen is in the Mabinogion, sister of Brân the Blessed!)

It is your first time to use western union so therefore none can blame you. It is always like this at the first experience. - Yes lad, and at the second, and the third... you'll see.

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers?

Help!
I'm currently under a predicament as last Saturday I broke my right arm Sad and writing is quite painful for me, so I'm asking fellow baiters if somebody can take this bait and continue it on my behalf.
I really don't feel like writing emails, let alone copy/paste with my left hand! it took me 20 min to write these lines.
If anyone is willing I can pm all the mails I received and sent, together with a link to the site I built on this purpose.
I'm so sorry!!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
