Hi, Recently joined the world of Scambaiting, Had a few on the go but they tend to just fade away as i dont usually know what to write, or when they demand a telephone number. Anway just got another on the go, one of the Haiti disaster ones, Mrs Nelson Cheryl, I am posing as a relief worker eager to help. shes sent me her Picture straight away. All good fun Very Happy

Hi Crems!

Hey, I'm a person who is hopeless at any creative writing. Use my imagination? I tried that: and found I didn't really have any. Clever baits? I can't do those.

What I can do, though, is pretend that my character is just like that relative or neighbour or ex-work colleague of mine. You know, that rather boring one. That one that rambles on about nothing interesting, and says, 'Yes, I'll do that' and 'Yes, I'll see to that' but somehow never quite does.

And then when I receive a Lad's mail, I think to myself, 'Now if Uncle Joe/Mrs Smith/Vivian-from-work received this, what would s/he say in reply?'

It seems to work OK.

And telephone numbers? I used to come out with quite elaborate excuses for why I couldn't give one. My older characters still keep those going. One is deaf, another has a speech impediment, another ... oh, it is a long story that would take paragraphs to explain. But then I got bored with that. My newer characters just stick to something that is actually true for me in real life: 'Mobile phones don't work where I live, and I can't use the landline.'

They don't usually give a reason WHY they can't use the landline - but if pushed, they would say they were signed up for a national-calls-only plan. Do such things exist with landlines? I don't know: so Lads certainly don't know either.

I've managed to get along just fine in baiting with my pathetic imagination and never giving a telephone number - so I reckon that you can too! Good luck!
