The mother of my daughter's girlfriend has fallen for a romance scam;
and has already committed money laundering crimes, by flipping funds.
She has received money by WU and MG and resent it to Nigeria. She has also received and forwarded packages. She can no longer use WU services as she is now on the designated persons list.
I am still trying to convince her that there are no stranded white engineers in Nigeria stuck in a construction project that will not end.
She still has some of his funds here, and a vehicle she purchased in her name. They wish her to ship the car to Nigeria. I think she has already committed crimes and may be eventually held accountable: that she might as well scam the scammer, and generate a nasty letter from the FBI demanding that she retain counsel, retain all correspondence with scammer, and bring funds to the FBI. Then she should forward this letter to the scammer and keep the money and car. Am I asking her to do something dangerous....or is turn about fair play?

No. That is definitely not the recommended course of action.
