I'm about to send a scammer some money, and I need to be talked out of it! I got this email a few days ago:

I'm already involved in some baits and didn't need another one, so I just wrote back:

What if he really is wanting to change his life? I mean, mircales DO happen sometimes. How naive and stupid am I being? I'm so tempted to send him $20! Help me!

Hell, he's just made $20 from sending out his format. He's got a job!!!

You want to send the lad something? Send him a fake WU form for $20 and have the little bugger jump through a few hoops. Maybe he can do a bit of gymnastics for a living.

Maybe this lad's real goal is to work a 9-5 job -- it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. But to have him go from scamming you one second, and the very next, begging you for money so that he can eventually come visit you and praise your generosity - I mean, only in a scammer's mind does that sort of logic hold true. He will take your money and then ask for more all in the pursuit of this mythic "job" -- when the only job he will then have is finding ways to get more money out of you.

Instead, if you are so inclined, offer to be his mentor and give him advice on how to find a job, look for ways to obtain grants or some NGO money that will be local, and have real strings attached. This will undoubtedly involve actual legwork and filling out (real) forms, etc. See how fast he drops you...

Personally I think you've stumbled on the greatest trophy collecting modality ever.

There must be a scammer every now and then who feels terrible about what he's doing or believes in karma or whatever and will try to change his life. Don't you think? I definitely think there are more good people than bad. How can it be so different in Nigeria?

Come sit around the camp fire while I recount a tale of horror and wonder...

About a week after I joined eater I was baiting scammer who was proving me his love by displaying his love tackle for all to see. After several weeks and more pictures of his lap taffy I accused him of being a scammer, which he confessed after a few emails. I was shocked at his honesty and he started telling me all about his life and his real name and so on. He promised me that he would never scam anyone again, and would repent for all the pain and misery he'd caused other women. In the next email he promised to turn over a new leaf if I could help him get back to school and better himself. Initially I felt odd that he was being so forthcoming and genuinely felt sorry for his situation. I also wondered if it was possible that he was lying and believed it was all part of his tactic to get my money.

At the same time I had contacted him with another persona, which low and behold, he sent his format, and I continued to trophy bait until I broke him and once again he confessed of his dire situation.

Sure his country is fucked up, but it doesn't mean you're only option is to waste all your time, effort and limited finances on stealing from others. No-one, regardless of your origin or situation is going to give you and quick and easy life-fix for long-term solutions. You want something out of life, go do what the rest of us do. Have a goal and bloody well work for it.

Yes, of course the opportunities are limited, but there are hundreds of different ways of making a life that doesn't involve living off the misery of others.

cece he's a lad. All he did was respond to your Email by saying exactly what he thought you needed or wanted to hear. That is what lads do. They will say anything and promise everything to get you to send them money. That response was very typical lad too. I worked too. I know you didn't send money but the fact you even considered it, even for a micro second means the lad got to you and that is what they want to do.

If you bought that outright silly lad lie, then I strongly suggest you read a lot more before baiting any further. Sometimes when lads figure out you are "joking" with them they don't indicate it but instead confess to being a scammer and tell you they are quitting then try to get you to feel sorry for them. I am worried about you.

Also please do me a favor and apply for a mentor. I'll assign you one immediately.

Lads say that kind of stuff all the time.

I'm not trying to belittle you or anything, but if you don't believe them when they say their mother died, they're in heavy debt, they got beaten up, they got sent to prison (and are writing from the prison cyber cafe), they have cancer, they're being hunted by rebels, they're orphans, and all of the other relatively ordinary stuff that lads say, why are you so quick to believe that they'll stop scamming, especially after they've said they'll do it after you fall mugu to them?

I feel like SUCH an idiot now, lol. You guys are right. I was too quick to believe him, and I'm sure it's just another scam. This one has probably worked for him much better than the form emails most people send.

That would be a 100% strike rate, where as this lad seems to break your factual percentages. Very Happy

You've bypass the entire getting to know and trust each other and move completely off script. Once a lad realises you know it's a scam he has nothing left to offer you. He'll either disappear or latch onto your idea.

I have already started using the "cece modality"TM. Although I did only start last night by sending 100 emails, I would guess that at least 1 will reply.

The best part about the "cece modality"TM is that once a lad admits he's scamming, he effectively ends his prospect of asking for a WU until he has done everything the baiter requires. His questionable past can be used against him every time he even hints at a westy and the pain will be completely self-inflicted. Very Happy

My fear is that it's a rare lad that will jump right to that stage from "Get a job, scammer!"

To clarify: I'm interested in any modality that brings them efficiently to the "Send me $20 to stop scamming" stage.

^ I see Jose is experimenting with this. I've also got at least 100 opening scripts in my catcher account, so I'll give it a try too. I'll split them into a good cop and a bad cop group. Half will get "Get a job and quit scamming people, low life!!" (or words to that effect). Half will get "Please don't take offense, but I'm very familiar with internet scams and I can tell you are a scammer. If only you would please consider getting an honest job, brother." (or similar)

Here's hoping for success.
